2. Hello all, I found a "Donaldson" list and posted to it, but forgot to bookmark the site. Do any of you all know of other Donandson lists? I'm looking for the post about an Emma Donaldson who married. The person who posted to that list was trying to find out about her family before she married. I may have some info, if we share the same Emma. I don't know if "my" Emma is the one he's looking for, but I'm trying to find that list again so that I can find out if we share an ancestor. Please send any Donaldson list info to: Nolabert@aol.com My grandmother's name was Mary Alice Dennis. Before she married my grandfather, she had two children, Floyd - born about 1891, and Emma, born about 1893. My grandmother's name at that time was Mary Donelson/Donaldson/or Donalson (I have it spelled three different ways on documents and family notes) After she married my grandfather, RC Dennis in Rowan County in 1896, they listed the children she had from her previous marriage under the "Dennis" name on all subsequent Census listings that I've found. They moved from Rowan County about 1904, and relocated and settled in Ashland, Kentucky. I haven't yet been able to track all my Aunts and Uncles marriages just yet. I just found my mom's, so I'm still working on the tree. Any help or suggestions of other Donaldson lists would be very appreciated. Thanks, Nola Thacker nolabert@aol.com Researching: DENNIS, DONALDSON, EVERSOLE, GILL, MANNING, THACKER, BROOKS

    3. I have some DONALDSON information to share which may or may not help. My ancestor, John DONALDSON, was born in 1745 in England according to his Rev. War records. He was living in Cheraw Dist in 1773, listed as a storekeeper, and bought the first of 1750 acres of land in Richmond Co., NC with the deed proved by the oath of and in the presence of Ely Kershaw. He had three sons, all mentioned in his Will which was proved in 1781. They were Peter, William, and John. John Donaldson married and settled in Marlboro Co., SC. I have never been able to find Peter and William again. Their mother, Sarah, married, for the second time, Daniel Hicks, and they were in Chesterfield Co., SC in 1788. I also saw a Samuel Donaldson mentioned in an early Anson Co., NC record book as a witness to a land transaction dated Sept. 1750. Joanne Harley harleyclan@coastalnet.com

    3. James Danielson came to Block Island, RI in 1683. He had a son John Danielson. John had a son Timothy Danielson born in 1751. Timothy had 9 children. At this time Timothy changed the name from Danielson to Donaldson at least for his children. I am not sure if he changed his own name or not. My mothers, Harriet Hathaway Donaldson,(deceased) 30 plus years of genealogy work with the Donaldson family is very extensive. On the page for Timothy Danielson she writes " It is probable that he changed his name back to Donaldson or at least had his children do so". Does any one have any info as to why this name change took place? Please email me if you have any info. I'll appreciate it! donaldwilkinson@msn.com

Get more from the Web.
