Greetings from New Zealand - I am a new subscriber to your list. Looking for information on, and descendants of, THOMAS DONALDSON (born 24 January 1869 in Methilhill, Wemyss, Fife, Scotland - parents David Donaldson and Margaret Johnston) and CHRISTINA CLIFTON (born 28 November 1871 from 5 Spence Place, Edinburgh, Scotland - parents Thomas Clifton and Euphemia Thoms (Thompson). THOMAS and CHRISTINA were married on 19 July 1893 in Newington, Edinburgh, Scotland. I am trying to establish if they had any children and what became of them. And also what became of Christina. And where they lived as a family. Thomas and Christina must have separated as Thomas Donaldson remarried Florence Plowman in Croydon, Surrey, England in 1908 and emigrated to New Zealand (where they had four children). These were my grandparents (long since deceased). Thomas never returned to the UK but my grandmother Florence did many times to visit her family in Croydon. Also, does anyone know what the situation was with DIVORCE LAWS in Scotland around the early 1900's, and whether any records exist which can be accessed. There was family speculation that Thomas may have left his first family, remarried and "hop-footed" it to New Zealand without first obtaining a Divorce from Christina. Would love to get to the bottom of this family mystery. Any assistance or suggestions would be gratefully received. Regards Anne Baxter

Some of this information may be wrong. I found that the information that my mother-inlaw gave me tends to have errors. I have found a Samuel Donaldson from Venango Co, PA, who had 9 childern with Mary A being the 6th and his wife died in 1875 but I can't connect this family definitely to my husband's family.(There is also an uncle William who lives in the same area and a cousin named Louisa) This family seems to fit with my Mary Ann Donaldson, anyone with information on the these Donaldsons please let me know. Thanks

Hello list. Looking for information on my Great Uncle, William Donaldson. I have the following information, but am unable to determine if the named William Donaldson is my Uncle: My Great great grandfather, John Donaldson left his farm in Montgomery County, MO to his son William, who was already living on and working the farm. John died in 1880, at his home in Allen Twp., Washington Co., PA. How John came to own a farm in MO is unknown, but it is known that William and some other family members went to MO in the late 1850's. I have an obituary of a Mrs. Vida Donaldson, wife of Capt. William Donaldson. She died Nov 19, 1893. It states that she was born in Ohio, moved to PA, met and married William in 1842. It also states that he was a flatboat Captain on the Monongahela River (Which borders his fathers farm!). They moved to Pike Co., MO in 1857, then to High Hill, Montgomery Co. in 1866. The obit also states that they had 11 children, 10 still living (in 1893), 8 of them living in Montgomery Co. I also have a copy of the Will of William D Donaldson (died July 28, 1900 - aged 79), which lists the following 7 children: Lucia THURMAN Eliza J PARSONS Margaret C. WHITE (Mrs. William H. White) R,H, Donaldson J. P. Donaldson John A. Donaldson William D. Donaldson, Jr. Two other sons died prior to their father: Henry, died sept 15, 1898 Joseph M died Aug 6, 1896 Hopefully someone has more information on either the Donaldsons of the area, or the daughters (Thurman, Parsons or White surnames). I cannot determine if the above William is my uncle. I have another source which states that his wife's maiden name may have been Anna Hudson, but I have no documentation.
