    1. [DONALDSON-L] Eastern Townships
    2. Gary Donaldson
    3. Nathan DONALDSON's records show variously birth (abt 1806) in Swanton, Vermont or Canada-East. In "History of the Eastern Townships" by CM Day, there is a section on Melbourne in the early years that mentions several DONALDSONs: "...was erected into a township named Melbourne, April 3rd 1805 and granted to Henry Caldwell and John Davidson the elder, and their associates, viz. ...Henry DONALDSON, James DONALDSON, Peter DONALDSON, John DONALDSON the younger, Hugh DONALDSON, David DONALDSON ..." The people of the area were mostly Presbyterian by preference. In 1816 a Union Church building was erected in Melbourne. In 1839 the Rev. J. McMoran was sent by the Presbytery of Quebec to reside in the place. Does anyone know of Nathan? Does anyone know of these other DONALDSONs? Where are the Union Church records kept? Gary Donaldson

    3. There is a village in Kittson County MN named Donaldson. It was named for Capt. Hugh Donaldson a veteran and Civil War Officer, an easterner who had come west to the new frontier around 1878. If anyone is interested I have copies of information from the Kittson County Historical Society that I could send. And if anyone has further information on Hugh Donaldson I would be interested in it.
