I have just started researching this George who appears to be a brother to my Joseph. Doesn't the following show that Capt/Col George Doherty's father was William, not George, Sr? VA Land Patents #30, 1750-1752, page 384. LDS Film #0029346 .....November 3, 1750.....William Doharty was granted 385 acres by George II. Land lying on the Cowpasture River in present day Bath County, VA. ******************** Botetourt Co. VA Deed Book 3, page 384 .....January 26, 1786....William Doherty divided his property lying on the Cowpasture River between his three sons, William, Joseph, and George, RESERVING THE PLANTATON AND NEGROS TO HIS OWN USE DURING HIS LIFETIME. ************************** Bath County, VA Deed Book 1, page 38 ....November 7, 1791....The above property was sold to Robert Sitlington. Admitted, and ordered to record..... *********************** This appears to prove that William Doherty of Cowpasture was the father of Col George Doherty who was husband of Priscilla Goforth of Jefferson County, TN. So far I have only seen the claim that George's father was George, Sr and his wife Elizabeth Williams. Comments? Esther
