I am searching for parents of Robert Doherty b. 1777 in VA and d. 1857 in Benton County, TN. He married Ruth French 17 April 1800 in Madison County, KY. (Their oldest son, William Franklin Doherty was born in Madison Co, KY, on 13 June 1801. Wm married Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Dalton on 29 July 1822 in Madison Co, KY) I suspect that he may be brother to Alexander, Nobel, Ann, Isabel......that would make him son of Cornelius Dougherty and Mary Hill.......but don't have any proof. The spelling of his name was DOHERTY in all Tennessee records. Thanks A Collins
Pvt. Cornelious Dogherty, Pvt. Patrick Dogherty, and Pvt. John Doherty served in the First Virginia regiment.

Hi there: > Here are all the Deaths for Doherty > Can I post from the research page of Boston Public Library or is that > copy rights If it is, I would be interested personally. I live in Boston, I attempted to go to the Boston Public Library but I didn't understand what information they had & how to get it. There is a page, as in website? Can you really do research online? Kimee

I've started a "collection" of sorts of Doherty family line nicknames. These are the substitute surnames used by various lines of the Doherty families, especially in Inishowen. My list is posted at: http://pweb.netcom.com/~attygene/nickname.htm Please take a look and let me know if you have any additions. Gene Doherty

First, we know that the Dohertys lived next to a Wm. Goforth in Jefferson Co.TN. who was refered to once as the Gen. George's 'damned brother-in--law'; not his father-in-law as once thought. Second, Wm. Goforth is said to be the son of Preston Goforth of Ansom Co. NC. The other key was the middle names of some of her Grandchildren i.e. Clemmons (Clements) and Preston). Ergo, Priscilla's birthplace, wedding place are established. Her age is estimated. I wish the Generals life could be detailed at that time. I did not get into the list until after whatever was published on it that brought up copywrite infringement was posted, however, for future reference, you might want to check: http://www4.law.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/htm_hl?DB=uscode17&STEMMER=en&WORDS=fair+us+&COLOUR=Red&STYLE=s&URL=/uscode/17/107.html#muscat_highlighter_first_match (I think I got that url correctly.) Quoting from a copywritten piece is not necessarily a breach of law. The quotation would be weighed on the basis of the effect of use on the potential market for or value of the use. Also weighed would be the fact that a listserve was not a business proposition, but a research tool. Section 107 of the US copywrite code states that [paraphrased here] use of copys of protected material for educational or research purposes is not a violation of copywrite law. Please refer to the link, above, for the full text. _______________________________________________ Why pay for something you could get for free?
