Martha DOHERTY Spouse: Hugh CARROLL Marriage: 12 Jul 1870 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Looking for information about the following family member: John Doherty emigrated to the USA about 1948/9. We think he may have lived in Mitchigan, but need verification. Does anyone have a branch of the following family? Thomas Doherty & Mary Conway were married on February 16, 1885. Thomas was from the town of Kilclare and Mary was from the town of Crummy. Crummy is also in the parish of Kiltubbrid. The marriage witnesses were Thomas M. Doherty and Roseanne O'Bierne (last names of both witnesses were difficult to read so this is a best guess). The father of Thomas Doherty was Patrick Gerald Doherty and the father of Mary was Patrick Conway. Children. Mary Anne Doherty born November 23, 1885 to Thomas Doherty and Mary Conway. Baptized November 26, 1885. Sponsors were Thomas Conway and Maria McDevitt. Patrick Doherty, son of Thomas Doherty and Mary Conway, was born September 21, 1887 in Kilclare. He was baptized on October 2, 1887 and his baptismal sponsors were Patrick Conway and Mary Conway. thomas Gerald Doherty born 12 Oct 1890 to Thomas Doherty and Mary Conway. (Line followed) Baptized (no record found) Sponsers (no record found) Died 26 Dec 1973 aged 83, in Wrightington Hospital, Wigan, Lancashire. John Doherty born October 5, 1896 to Thomas Doherty and Mary Conway. Baptized October 8, 1896. Sponsors were Thomas Doherty and Elizabeth Ford. End of list. Can anyone help with information about John Doherty or the others in the family? Regards. Jim Doherty.
Am sure this is a different branch. My Edward and Mary were from England and Ireland about 1867. Good luck, Phil Doherty Sirdad34@aol.com

Anent (sic) the death of Hugh Doherty, who died Christmas morning at Duluth, his home for the past 22 years, of which mention was made last week, we learn that he died of Bright's disease. He was a native of Ireland, born in the county of Tyrone on June 21, 1843, and with his parents came to America when 2 years old. He lived in this county until his removal to Duluth, and was married here to Hannah Maher, who with six children survives him. The children are Frank, Mrs. A. M. Hegland, James, Hugh and Alice of Duluth and Mrs. Frank Farrington of Fergus Falls. Mrs. P. Cantwell of this city was his sister and Frank Doherty of St. Thomas and Patrick Doherty of Hibbing, his surviving brothers. Mr. Doherty was a devout Catholic and his life was spent in serving God honestly and sincerely. When called he was fully prepared to answer and bid farewell to earth with hopes of a life lived here fitted for happiness beyond the grave. Le Sueur News, January 4, 1912 Died Christmas day, December 25, 1911

John and Hannah came to America in 1868 with infant son Hugh and Hannah's sister Bridget O'Donnell. They were all from Ireland but for whatever reason John and Hannah were married in Edinburgh Scotland. Their son Hugh was born there also. The crossing of the Atlantic was extremely hard and they thought they might drown. The got on a train to Sandwich Illinois and lived in Streator Illinois for the next 20 years. John died in Leeds ND September 1906. Hannah died in Winnifred Alberta Canada in 1919. 8 more children were born to them. 9 in all: Hugh (1867) James Raymond (1870) Mary Ellen (1872) Anthony Joseph "Flint" (1874) John Patrick "Jack" (1876) Thomas "Tim" (1881) Anna (1879) Edward (1884) and Bridget Grace "Birdie" (1887). Hugh never married: he lived and died in Winnifred Alberta Canada as did Flint after his wife Pearl died in 1912. Mary Ellen married Amos Cartier LaFrance and lived in North Dakota. Anthony Joseph "Flint" married Pearl Evelyn Schuman. James Raymond married Georgia after his first wife, Anna Rice died in 1912. James and Georgia lived in Sandpoint Idaho.
