    1. [DOHERTY] DOHERTY FAMILY - BIRMINGHAM
    2. Forgive me being a pain but I sent this last week and thereafter had problems with my e-mail and couldn't receive anything. In the event that you were kind enough to respond to me, could I please trouble you to send the reply once more as I was unable to receive it until now. Thanks and kind regards Jane Pow ----- Forwarded by Jane Pow/LWR on 11/05/01 02:49 PM ----- Jane Pow To: DOHERTY-L@rootsweb.com 10/31/01 cc: 04:49 PM Subject: DOHERTY FAMILY - BIRMINGHAM I have just begun searching my family history and hope that someone out there may have some information which may help me. My grandfather was Frederick Thomas DOHERTY, born in Birmingham on 18.2.1884. He had the following brothers and sisters: Ernest born 1876 approx Alfred born 1878 approx Frank born 1880 approx Gertrude born 1886 approx Emily born 1889 approx Herbert born 1890 approx His parents were Selina WILSON born in Birmingham in approximately 1858 and John Lawerance DOHERTY born in Birmingham in approximately 1856. They were married in Birmingham on 11.1.1876. Their marriage certificate states John Lawerance DOHERTY's surname to be DONRETTY but census records show the name to be DOHERTY, which is the name followed through by our family. Unfortunately, I have as yet been unable to locate a birth certificate for John Lawerance DOHERTY or DONRETTY but am constantly researching this. His father is stated on his marriage certificate to be Patrick LAWERANCE and an address and occupation are given for him. I would suspect that his name was actually Patrick Lawerance DOHERTY since it would be unlikely that the father of an illegitimate child would be named on the child's marriage certificate. Please get in touch with me if you know anything at all about this family. Thank you Jane Pow

I have been unable to identify them. The names on the back of the pictures are Elizabeth Celia Doherty and May Anna Doherty. I can not seem to find a connection to my family. These pictures were taken in Chicago and I would date them, guessing, as around mid 1800's to early 1900's. If anyone has any idea about these children please let me know.

    1. [DOHERTY] Henry Daniel Doherty
    2. Melanie J Singh
    3. I have hit a brick wall with my gt-grandfather, Henry Daniel Doherty. The only place I have found him is on the 1891 census where he reports to be 35, a mariner, and born in Sittingbourne, Kent, England. I can only guess that he was born around 1856, as we all know that the census details are not always correct! I have checked for baptism in various Parish Registers, and marriage in Swanscombe Parish Register (wifes place of birth). His wife Matilda Ruth Collins was born 1857. They had the following children: Ethel Frances, b 1887 Henry Richard, b 1889 George Charles, b 1891 John Ernest, b 1893 Robert Leonard, b 1900 Ivy Ruth 1903 If anyone has my Henry in their tree, I would be thrilled to hear from them! Regards Melanie

Have you tried the English death records? The date 1941 suggests that he died in the Second World War. The war in Europe started a good while before America encountered Pearl Harbour in December of 1941. Pat, we kicked off the action on September 1939!! So that could be a source of reference for you. It sounds like you have English and Irish roots. If you have, please get in touch. Ben
