Michelle, I should have re-edited my original memo. Could William Smoot II have married Dorothy and they had a son William Smoot III? If William Smoot III was born in 1680, William Smoot II would have been about 29 and Dorothy would have been about 17. Perhaps William II and Dorothy never married but had an illegitimate son, William Smoot III? Could this account for the relationship? Yes, I'm going out on a limb but I'm hoping that through brainstorming we can gradually piece this together. Noone else has mentioned William Smoot II having a son William Smoot III. And, it is odd that his known daughters weren't born until 1693 and 1698. He would have been about 42 and 47, respectively, when they were born. Isn't this unusually old for the time? Is there any chance Thomazin, Alice, and Dorothy were single maidens from England? Does anyone have access to those records?
