I've already tried drawing charts trying to figure out where the Smoots, Mary Gilbert and Dorothy Durham all fit in and the second wife or third wife for William Smoot gets too complicated. But wait! Maybe Mary Gilbert is JANE's mother and therefore grandmother to Dorothy, Thomazin and Alice? How absurd does that get?! :) And perhaps the "girls" aren't mentioned in William Smoot's will because he had already settled property on them? The other option is divorces and remarriage but that seems ever more far fetched in those blessed days then anything else! This is pre-breakfast logic. I've got to go make waffles.
