My wife, Pat Hall from Norton, VA, is the gggg-granddaughter of Simon Dotson. Her lineage descends from the marriage of Schuyler Hamilton b.1787 and Susannah Dotson b. 1795, daughter of Simon Dotson. I found Simon in the 1840 Census in Russell Co., VA. Thanks to you all, there is a wealth of information on the Dodson/Dotson line, but there seems, at least on my part, to be some confusion as to the ascendancy of Simon Dotson. Some say he is the son of William Dodson b. 1750-1760, wife unknown. That ascendancy takes him from; (1) William Dodson b. 1750-1760 to; (2) Lambeth Dodson, Jr. b. unknown, wife unknown to; (3) Lambeth Dodson b 1689 Richmond Co., VA to; (4) Charles Dodson, Sr. b. 1649 Rappahannock Co., VA. Another Dodson family tree indicates that Simon Dotson is the son of William Dodson b. unknown, wife unknown. That ascendancy takes him from (1) William Dodson b. unknown to; (2) Thomas Dodson, Sr. b. May 15, 1681 Rappahannock Co., VA, wife Mary Durham b. June 5, 1686 Farnham, Rappahannock Co., VA; to (3) Charles Dodson, Sr. b. 1649 Rappahannock Co., VA. I guess my problem is "who is between Simon Dotson and Charles dodson, Sr." Hopefully someone can straighten me out. Having just started into the genealogy of our families, I can really appreciate the efforts you all have gone through to research what is probably a very prominent colonial family. The use of the internet and your willingness to share data is also greatly appreciated by those of us who "are new to the game". Pat and I would welcome a response to our Dodson/Dotson dilemma.
