    1. Re: Tracing back earlier than 1850.

    3. Hi, I know how difficult it is to trace George Dodson. I have 3 in my line. The most recent was George Dodson III, born ca 1776 in VA He married Martha Lockhart in Patrick Co VA ca 1790 ( I have the date somewhere)and they moved with other Dodsons and Lockharts to Wayne Co Ky. There he was ordained a Baptist minister. About 1828 they relocated to Boone Hendricks Co IN where he was instrumental in establishing Eagle Creek Baptist Church where he is believed to be buried. This is just NW of Indianapolis where there are several Dodsons. George & Martha had many children, nieces and nephews who stayed in KY, and some moved westward. I suspect that your George might be a nephew or son?? Martha was living in Vermilion Co IL in 1850 with her son Ruel Dodson, also a Baptist minister. If your George is related to mine also look for neighbors with surnames Lockhart, Powell as they migrated together and intermarried.I have more info on this branch.
