Cousins Vol. 2 is: "These were found in boxes labeled "Appropriations" by the county court for burials and the like for paupers in the county." There are many pages of these records and I will try and post them as I get a chance to type them in. They include records of deaths, indigency, orphans, and include information on murders, unidentified bodies, etc. I am keeping the spelling the same, so know that [most] typos are how it originally appeared. p.265 PAUPER COFFINS ALLEN, Miss., court paid Lamb & Boyd for coffin furnished on 2 March 1863. PILLERS, Patsey, court paid for care of pauper and coffin and digging grave, died June 1866. WILLIS, Josep, court paid for coffin furnished by A. Barr in 1867. COCKRELL, Grand, coffin furnished on 30 Feb. 1868, and paid for by county. Inquest was held on his boddy on 27 Feb. 1868. PITTS, John "murderer", coffin furnished on 2 March 1868. (Note: he was killed by Ku Klux Klan for murdering young Bicknell.) GILMORE, James, coffin furnished on 16 Feb. 1828. SMITH, Philip, a pauper, coffin made June 1859 by Isaac Grissom. GORDON, Patsey, coffin made in 1859 by James M. Clymer for her, a pauper. BRADFORD, Henry, coffin made in 1859 for him, a pauper, by James M. Clymer. KELLEY, _______, coffin made in 1860 for him, a pauper, by Thos. Clendenin. JOHNSON, Nancy, county paid for her coffin in 1860. A later note says coffin was made in May 1860. CHANDLER, child, court paid for certain articles which "were furnished for the burial of Mrs. Mary Chandler's child, and that she is a pauper." 1860. WADE, Elizabeth, pauper, coffin made by James Hudspeth in Oct. 1857. WHITE, Joseph, certain articles furnished on 10 Aug. 1860 "for his burial and he was an extreme pauper." JACK, Robert, county paid for shroud for him, charge was made 9 Nov. 1855 at Santa Fe. BURLING, David, 1859 a coffin made for him, a pauper. EDGIN, Samuel, tells court "he is infirm, old and helpless and upon the point of suffering for the common necessaries of life. He is unable to work and has no one to work for him...." Entered in court minutes 4 July 1859. CRAWFORD, Mrs. Sarah, "wishes an allowance of $20 being destitute of nearly everything to eat and wear. She is the widow of Col. Samuel Crawford who fought well for his country." July 1859. JACK, "The children of Bob Jacks, one two and the other three years old, ask $50 for a year's support..." July 1859. LUNN, Nathan, a pauper, furnished a coffin on 21 Jan. 1856. NANCE, Mrs., a pauper, coffin furnished by Jno. M. Priest in 1858. " " , Robert, coffin made 26 March 1858 by John M. Priest; Nance, a pauper. " ", infant son of Robert Nance, deceased, coffin furnished on 30 April 1858 by John M. Priest. ELAM, James, pauper, coffin made in Oct. 1857 by John M. Priest. DODSON, child of Samuel Dodson, coffin furnished on 25 June 1852 by James T. Brooks, who is "unable to make the amount out of said Dodson." LOVELL, girl, in March 1857 coffin furnished for one of daughters of Crawford Lovell, who "is wholly and utterly unable to pay for said coffin...being entirely insolvent and a pauper."
