"This note was posted recently: > In a 1995 Prodigy posting, Marion Morgan described an article by a Mrs . C. T. Dodson which stated John > DODSON came to America with Captain John Smith in 1607 and married an Iroquois girl named Jane. I > would like information on this John Dodson and his descendants which lead through some four generations > to Eleanor Dodson who married John Stamps (ca. 1740 - 1812) (a DAR patriot) probably in Halifax County, > VA. Eleanor Dodson Stamps was the grandmother of my gggrandfather William Lipscomb Stamps (1815- > 1896) of Milford, NC. The list of those who sailed with Christopher Newport and John Smith is widely published. I have never seen a DODSON on that list, but there is a John DOD. I am descended from both Dodsons and Dodds, and I'd love to claim him as mine. However, I don't believe any one has, to date, ever published any evidence that suggests that John Dod had children. It's my understanding that the Ancient Planters society recognizes no one's claim of descendancy from him. His wife, Jane, is believed to have come from England on a later ship. They were both listed in the 1624 muster of English living in Virginia. I'm no expert on either of these families, but this is what my investigations have revealed. The Stamps and Dodson families moved to Halifax Co. from Fauquier Co. in the late 1760s and early 1770s. Libbie Griffin
