    1. Re: Revolutionary War Service, Thomas "2nd Fork" Dodson
    2. Connie, At the time I wrote the e-mail to Glenn, I didn't know that merely signing that oath of allegiance was qualifying for DAR. I thought they had to DO something to show evidence as a patriot. For that reason, when I was at the DAR Library in Washington D. C. this summer, I went hunting in their books to determine WHAT my specific ancestors did to warrant patriotic service. I descend from 7 or 8 of these guys and I was simply curious if any of them had been a soldier (only one, maybe two). Glenn put me straight concerning the oath, but not before I found the notes about the two Thomas Dodsons. The section of Pittsylvania County where the Dodsons lived on Birch Creek, is in the southeast corner not far from Halifax County--the river runs right through it. In cruising the net last night I found two Thomas Dodsons listed as paying taxes in Halifax county in 1785; obviously the county lines were more flexible then than they are now. For that reason, I'm accepting what I found about Thomas Dodsons providing material for the war effort from, at least, Halifax courthouse during the Revolution. I'm a writer, I'm looking for the stories, and so learning my ancestors supplied brandy to the troops, was satisfying to my curiousity! And I'm not a member of the DAR.
