Dear Dodson Researchers, I am the man behind the scenes who started this list and has kept it running smoothly since March of this year. Originally the list was managed through MAISER at Indiana University. Their system crashed due to thousands of spam e-mail going through the entire MAISER system. They decided to quit handling the e-mail discussion lists on various surnames, but thankfully Rootsweb was gracious to take over all the surname lists and keep them running. The lists were down for the first 3 weeks of May and were started up again with Rootsweb the last week of May. Rootsweb does not charge anyone (not even the list manager) for the use of this service, although they do take donations (and are soliciting financial help). I work full-time & have a 5-yr-old and a 1-yr-old at home, plus I edit 2 family surname newsletters which are mailed out, am local president of the Sons of the Am. Revolution, am active in my church, and the list goes on and on. I am also list manager for about 10 other family surname lists. Thus I find it increasingly difficult to remain as the list manager for the Dodson List. I am turning the list over to Alley Blackford who should do a very capable job of assisting anyone who needs it. Her e-mail address is: wchs@prodigy.net She also has a web page devoted to Dodsons at: http://pages.prodigy.net/wchs Other surname lists available through Rootsweb are shown at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/ Another excellent source of info. on various surnames is John Fuller's website: http://members.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html Hope this information is helpful to everyone. Sincerely, Glenn Gohr (Former Dodson List Manager) ggohr01@mail.orion.org
