Dear Michelle, I too am interested in your papers on the SMOOT and DODSON lines. Mine lived side by side in Charles Co., Maryland in the late 1600s to the mid-1700s and are related through marriage. The SMOOTs go back to William SMOOT who died in 1668 in St. Mary's Co., MD (before Charles became a county) and his descendants who settled in Charles. The DODSONs go back to John Dodson who appeared in Charles Co. records in the early 1700s and died there in 1735. The SMOOT line spreads out into Virginia and my branch of the DODSON line appeared in Bedford Co., VA in the mid-1750s. You your DODSONs and SMOOTs relate to any Maryland families? Sincerely, Daniela
