Dear Cher, I would have the shawl cleaned or wash it gently in woolite, and store it in a pillowcase. Plastic is not good for fabric. All of my old quilts are either in my ceder chest or in my linen closet in a pillowcase to protect from the dust. If you need to put a moth repellant in with them, make sure it does not touch the object as it can cause discoloration. You are very luck and I loved your ideas on keeping the story with the object.
