Just heard about a new web site that deals with History and Genealogy of the Cumberland River Valley of southeastern Kentucky. Counties covered include: Bell, Knox, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Wayne, and Whitley Counties. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/6808/ Here is the Pulaski County page that interests me. Pulaski County, KY: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/6808/pulaskico.html I noticed on the Pulaski County Page a reference to where William Dodson donated land for the town square in Somerset, KY & also for the Sinking Creek Baptist Church that he belonged to: "On February 24, 1801, William Dodson, Reubin Hill and Moses Hands made bond for $1,000 to justices for Dodson, conveying the 40 acres of land to the court on or before March 1, 1812. Dodson made bond to convey all this land except one acre on which the Sinking Creek Baptist Church stood and three lots which he retained for himself." Actually this should be Moses HANKS. He is my direct ancestor and married Aggatha Dodson. He was closely related to William Dodson and Reubin Hill. (More on this is given. Much of the info. comes from an article in the Somerset (KY) newspaper as cited on the web page. Reference to this is also found in the 2-vol. book on the Dodson family by Rev. S. E. Lucas.) Also there are numerous links to other pages regarding history and genealogy in this area and also some related sites of interest. This page could keep you busy for hours with all the things you can look up! There is also a link to: Gorin Genealogical Publishing Page: http://members.tripod.com/~GorinS/index.html Sandi Gorin, the owner, has hundreds of books for sale with info. on southeastern Kentucky and some other counties in KY and also several surnames of interest.
