My father (John Murray Dodson) was born in Tasmania, Australia around 1912 we are not too sure when because he has been a bit of a mystery man so far as our family is concerned we have very little information about him. I heard through my namesake, Michael Dodson of Atlanta who I have now lost touch with now informed me there was a Book of Dodsons, if it exists I would like to obtain a copy. I live in Canberra, Australia which is our capital city. Id very much appreciate any information you could provide. I dont exactly know where the name comes from but Im assuming one of my ancestors came to Australia at some stage during the colonial period and settled in Tasmania Cheers Mick Dodson Dodson, Bauman & Associates Pty Ltd. Mick, I saw your posting that was forwarded to the Dodson rootsweb list. I have the Dodson family book that you're referencing, but it is no longer in print I don't believe and it only covers the Dodson line in America, so I'm not sure it would be of any use to you. However, there is something that might be interesting and might help both family lines. The American Dodsons have never discovered their roots overseas, to my knowledge. However, several American Dodsons have been participating in a DNA for genealogy project. Roy Dodson who participates on this list is the administrator for the group. I have copied him on this posting but he does travel so doesn't always have access to the internet every day. I don't think I'm allowed to post the name of the company doing the testing on rootsweb, but I'll e-mail you privately in a minute so you can go to the website and check this out. It will let us know if your Dodson line and ours came from a common source.
