Surnames: Eagle Plume/Dod's/Dodson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RKT.2ACIB/1539 Message Board Post: I also am interested in seeing the Jamestown Court marriage document for John Dod's. I do believe John is a Dodson: the apostrophe was indication of "son." And in The Original Lists of Persons of Quality; Emingrants; etc.. 1600-1700, ed. by John Camden Hotten, (Baltimore: Genalogical Pub., 1978), he is listed twice in Chas. City, Va. : in the 16 Feb. 1623 list of the living at "ye Neck of Land": "John Dod's" and "Mrs Dod's"; and in the 24 Jan. 1624 "Muster" of Charles City "John Dod's aged 36 yeares in the Susan Constant Aprill 1607" and "Jane his wife aged 40 yeares." J ane here is one of the few people not listed as arriving in a particular ship, which MIGHT point to an Indigenous origin. Also, the lack of documentation might also point to a non-Anglo/ non-white origin. I have found that lack of documentation, in other genealogical lines of my family, have turned out to be Am. Indian. So yes, I would love to see the document that verifies marriage and linkage from John to Chas. of Richmond. Until then, we have a lot of mystery and some possibilities here.
