The truth is only in the oral histories of thousands of descendants, who all reveal basically the same stories; John Dods married a Native American. In my case, as a child I was told that she was related to Pocahontas, I have come to believe that she was either a sister or a cousin. Of course the English Virginia Company, did not always convey the truth in the conditions and living arrangements of the settlers. Many of the settlers co-habituated with the Native Americans, but this of course was not the correct English rules of marriage as they were not Christian. Therefore, marriages and baptism records may have never existed. John Dods survived, and in the 1623/24 was only 1 of 3 persons who was still living in Virginia from the original settlers of 1607.
