William Mayberry Dodson (born about 1880 and descendant of a John Dodson, one of the earliest Dodsons in Bedford/Blair County) is the source of the Thomas m Molly Seabrook information with a 'Levan' as father. He wrote "Thomas Dodson, born at Valley Forge, son of Levan, lived and married to Molly Seabrook. Then moved to Chambersburg where they lived. I have no further record of them except they had at least one son. Joseph Dodson, son of Thomas, born near Chambersburg..." A Thomas Dodson is first named in 1798 in the tax list of Bedford County PA along with John Dodson and Michael Dodson in Woodbury Township. He is showing as a miller, owns his home and 150 acres. 1800 Census Name: Thomas Dodson Township: Hopewell and Woodberry County: Bedford State: Pennsylvania Free White Males Under 10: 1 (born 1790 to 1800) Free White Males 10 to 15: 1 (born 1785 to 1790) Free White Males 45 and Over : 1 (born before 1755) Free White Females 16 to 25 : 1 (born 1775 to 1784) Number of Household Members Under 16 : 2 Number of Household Members Over 25 : 1 Number of Household Members: 4 In 1814 a Thomas is listed as a farmer and cooper, age 68 - Taxable in the Twpship of Greenfield, PA - which would make his DOB around 1746. Burial Dodson Cemetery East Freedom Twp, Blair County, PA - age 90 years 13 days. PA Veteran's Card This Thomas is believed to be the father of Joseph Dodson born in 1792 who married Susan Conrad. Some have said Joseph was born "near Chambersburg, PA" (Franklin County, PA). 1850 census shows that he was born in PA. Joseph had a son named Levi (don't know if this is a clue). 1820 tax list Bedford County Greenfield Twp Joseph of Thomas - farmer There is a Joseph S Dodson listed in a tax list in Bedford County PA in 1823. I have seen the name Hurley in connection with Calvert or Charles County Maryland Dodsons but not with Pennsylvania Dodsons. There are documented connections to Maryland with the Bedford/Blair Dodsons, but the connections are to Frederick County Maryland. We have hoped that a male Dodson of this line would have a YDNA test to see if there is a connection to the Frederick MD or Chester County PA Dodsons who migrated to Bedford.
