My ancestor was born in Frederick Co., Va (now Shenandoah) on Oct. 23, 1752. His name was Richard Dodson/ later Dotson. He and your William both served in the Revolutionary War, and returned to Shenandoah briefly after discharge. Richard went to Loudoun Co, then Hampshire Co., then Wood County, WVa. Your William left Shenandoah and settled in Nelson Co., Kentucky. Pension aps for each of them do not identify their parents. We are both at brickwalls with them, but I think they may have been brothers. We (descendants of Richard) recently had several Dodson men participate in DNA testing, and there are quite a few who match 100% with Richard Dodson, born 1731, in Chester Co., Pa., to Thomas and Mary Prigg Dodson. One of this Richard's descendants recently were tested, and helped connect these lines back to Pa. There was a William Dodson who fought in the French and Indian War from Frederick Co., Virginia. It's possible that this William was the son (John William, born 1729) of Thomas and Mary also. He was in the Frederick/Shenandoah areas throughout the times of both births. I am hoping to find a male Dodson family member from this William Dodson line, born 1758, who would be interested in participating in the DNA project. If there is, and the results come back matching back to Thomas and Mary, then it's a pretty safe bet that Richard and William were brothers, and that the William of the French and Indian War, is a strong prospect as their father. There is also a Thomas Dodson, Sr. that was in the same area at the same times as this Sr. William. This may have been Thomas, alleged son ofn Thomas and Mary. So..these would be basically the only two prospects of being their father. Do you know of any male Dodsons in your family line from William who may be interested in participating? Linda Here's a link with lots of documentation on the research being done. Start with Chester Co., then Frederick, Md., then Shenandoah Co. It's a large site, and this would be the best order to work with, I think. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wvpioneers/Dotson Links.html Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
