I was curious about Tappahanna and the 150 A. that John Dodd was entitled to there. Turns out that 'Tappahanna' is the capital city of Essex County, and the town/city did exist when John Dodd lived at Bermuda Hundred. From Wikipedia: Tappahannock is the oldest town in Essex County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,068 at the 2000 census. Located on the Rappahannock River, Tappahannock is the county seat of Essex County[3]. Its name comes from the Algonquian language word lappihanne (also noted as toppehannock), meaning "Town on the rise and fall of water" or "where the tide ebbs and flows." In 1608 John Smith landed in Tapphannock but was driven back by the local Native American tribe.[4] >From what I remember of Charles Dodson's will, he owned land in both Richmond Co. and Essex County, Virginia. North Farnham Parish where much of the births/baptisms of his children were recorded was in Richmond Co. I wonder if the 150 A. owned by John Dodd in Tappahonnock, Essex Co. was somehow a portion of the land owned by Charles Dodson later? Now that would be one heck of a connection! More later.......
