I descend from Richard Dodson, born 1752 in Frederick Co., now Shenandoah, and who also fought in the Revolutionary War. I'm hoping to find some descendants of the this William, and hopefully to find a connection between William and Richard. Neither of these have a known parent, and are not 'claimed' by the Richmond line. DNA testing was done that now shows that my Richard is NOT of the Richmond line. (Gotta love that DNA! Saved probably another twenty years looking for a connection to a line that he wasn't from. :) As far as the name William, this is one of the big challenges in genealogy...naming patterns were common, and everyone seemed to have several namesakes, so we wind up chasing down several of the same given name, only to find we're way off course.)I do wish our ancestors had a little more creativity in naming children. It would make the search a bit easier, for sure. There are some Charles of Richmond descendants posting in this thread. Maybe they have some information that could help you. Good luck, Linda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
