He moved to Pittsylvania Co. sometime after 1801. Often referred to as "William of Dan River" in early tax records. The Dan River land was that inherited by his wife, the former Mary Fearn. He left a will in Pittsylvania Co., which proves his connection to the Mecklenburg Dodsons. He names brothers Stephen & Edward, and "my sisters" (who live in Mecklenburg Co. VA.) A deed in Mecklenburg Co. dated Mar 1821 named Edward Dodson (a brother) lawful attorney to seek the family's share of William's Pittsylvania Co. estate.
