The "proper" English would not have accepted or recognized the copulation of "mixed marriages" or even acknowledged the fact that they were going on.... Unless, Like in Pocahontas, sold out by other Native Americans for the cost of a copper pot/tea kettle, kidnapped, held for ransom for almost a year, "Christanized" and baptized, married off to a middle class up and comer, [who by the way did what the Virginia Company needed him to do]. Then when she traveled to England and contracted Tuberculosis {sp}, or poisoned by the same Virginia Company officials, who really did not want her to return to Virginia to report what she had seen. Anyone who was a commoner, was of such little importance to the powers that they would only acknowledge him and his family when he was only one of three to survive till the 1624 Muster of Colonist. Interesting, since John Dods came as a Laborer and made it, when all the Gentlemen and the skilled did not.
