It is possible that 'Lou', Lucile, Louisa, etc are in fact, Delilah Louise canter, her sister, and that it was Delilah Louise who married William Henry Dodson. I have a copy of the marriage record of Lucinda Canter andWilliam H. Buck Dodson m. 1854 in Washington Co., KY Kate L. Dodson, Ambrose, Laswell, Ambrose is my great Grandmother and she is the K L in both 1880 census you posted Lucinda Canter and William H. Buck Dodson where on Kate's death certificate as her parents. Kate was born 1877 in Botland, Nelson Co., KY and died 1953 in Louisville, KY . She was living with her daughter Anna Laswell Goode at the time of her death. Kate is also the Mrs. Jack Ambrose in the obituary for Lucinda. It should be Mrs. Jake Ambrose. Kate was m. to Jocob C. Ambrose at the time. I cn see Lucinda being called Lucy on the 1870 census but her age has to be wrong. I Lucinda was married in 1854, she didn't have childrenfor six years. She could have lost a child or two I supose but I have no proff of this. There is a problem with Mary's birthdate. They don't agree from one census to another. Lucinda Canter Dodson's mother was Sarah BORDERS m. B. Lenord Canter. Lucinda was know as Widow Dodson so it is possible that William H. Dodson who died in 1877 was married to Lucinda, Let me know what you think of all this.

I have been trying to find out about you grandfather Laswell for 20 years. What can you tell me. Where was he born, when, to who, brothers and sisters When and where were Kate and he married. I have never been able to find devorce papers between Kate and Jacob Ambrose. Do you know why she was an Ambrose on her death certificate and her tomb stone? So nice to hear ! from a close cousin.

In a book at the Louisville library on "Deaths in Washington County, Ky from 1852 to 1860" Delila Canter a single female, daughter of Leonard and ______ Canter, died on August 16, 1852 at the age of 15. Therefore I do not believe Delila was William Dodson's wife. What do you think??

Our records indicate that a Ranch Foreman by the name of Jack Wilson, reportedly born in Sherman Texas and a friend of Claude Hanna, joined the 21st on the 28th March 1918. He was later found to use two aliases : H W Dodson ( Canadian Archives records show this as his real name) and Hugh Whitmore. He was born the 14th of August 1898 in Sherman Texas. His next of kin was shown as Claude Hanna of Howe Texas. We wondered why the use of aliases. He was over 18 when he joined, so it can't be an underage thing. Was he "on the lam?" In the Dodson book there is a Mandy C. Dodson, born 12 Nov 1877, Fayette Co., Alabama married Jim Hayes. Mandy was the daughter of Wesley J. Dodson, b. 11 Feb 1841, Fayette Co., Alabama, died 23 Oct 1915, Lamar Co., Alabama. Wesley married 9 March 1865, Fayette Co., Sarah M. Foster. Mandy was the 6th of about 9 children. There is other information in this book on Mandy's ancestors if you think it is the right one. You didn't mention your grandfather's birthdate so I've nothing to compare to.
