    1. Hi Dodson researchers (Dodson & Ashcraft discussion)
    2. I was reading the list archives and also have received an email from another person on this list (and have in the past corresponded with other Dodson researchers) I can't say I've found anything new (since I rarely have time to work on genealogy). But I noticed some things were directed towards my searches (on message boards). I never saw the replies that were in this email list -- I only saw replies to the message boards. So, forgive me for not answering!! It only made sense for me to subscribe to this list and we can continue the discussion. This is what I saw in the archives: on Fri, 18 Mar 2005, this was posted by Marge Lingenfelter "I have Richard Ashcraft and Elizabeth Carr, daughter Mary B. Ashcraft b. 22 Aug. 1771, Fayette Co. 3. Bonnie, My mother gets interested but doesn't pay attention until I can't wait to tell he a new story I found and she says Oh, that I knew that already. Then why didn't you tell me earlier! Keep digging. If you keep finding stories your relatives may want to tell you the details they remember. Its the little things that trigger the memories. don't get discouraged. Jo Ann Bonnie Arnold <[email protected]> wrote: This is such good advice I had to write and say "thank you" for posting it. I long to find old stories of my family line but for some reason I can't seem to find any of them. I have tried to speak to family members and they just claim they don't remember anything at all. But the stories is what makes it so interesting. If anyone can point me in some new direction as to where to locate these old stories please let me know. I use to sit and ask my grandfathers to tell me stories about when they were kids but I always got the same story everytime. But I still enjoyed hearing it and watching their expressions while telling it. Now everyone has long passed and distant relatives are calling me wanting to know if I knew any of the old stories, which I can only tell the 2 or 3 that I know. My children doesn't appreciate my love of this hobby either but hopefully I have an upcoming grandson who will take it up when I am long gone. He does ask me questions and wants to help with my scrapbooking and genealogy when he is here and he is only 9yrs old now so hopefully he won't lose the love for it when he gets older. Thanks for listening to me and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RKT.2ACIB/830.951.2.1 Message Board Post: Lynn, I found an entry in a book of " St. Rose Baptisms" at the Washington County Library as follows: Dotson-Cantor. p.820. Catherine Louise; b. Sep. 7-1877; bap. Jul. 30-1881. Parents: William Henry Dotson and Louise Cantor. (I had written for a copy of Kate Dodson's Birth Certificate in Nelson County and was told it could not be found so will try again using the name of Catherine born in Washington County unless you have anything to dispute this information.) The same page also listed baptisms for James b. Dec. 20-1869 bap. Aug. 8 -1883 and Elizabeth Mary b. Jul. 2-1872, bap. Jul. 22-1882 with the same parents. I visited St. Rose and was told that all of their old records had been given to the Washington County Library. The lady there just directed me to their Research section where I found these books which did list many of our ancestors (Borders - Canter - Dodson). No one seemed able to tell me what happened to the original records. Also, while visiting the Nelson County library, I uncovered another mystery. In the "Marriage, Bond & Consent Book of Nelson Co., Ky. 1886-1889" I found the following entry: Ambrose, Jacob C & Dodson, Kate C - Book 20 Married 15 March 1899 Bond 15 March 1899 Bond Signed: R.L. Hagan Married by: J.L. Reid Where: Nelson Co., Bardstown, Ky Witness: W.F. Dodson, Otho Wood (The next time I am in Bardstown I plan to visit the Archives Bldg. to see if I can find the original document. A lot of research still to be done.) If you have any information that would dispute this info, please let me know.

I noticed that you did not have Lucinda/Lucille Canter's baptism. or her marriage record to William Henry Dodson. Or Martha Dodson's baptism. I wonder if I wrote to St. Rose if they would look in there files? I like you think that Martha Dodson Nally named her first son ( William Vincent Nally b.7/6/1881 ) after the 2 father's--her father William Dodson and his father Vincent Joseph Nally. Also, Wm Henry Dodson's mother was Martha and Lucinda/Lucille Canter had a sister named Martha. And they named their first child Martha M. Dodson. So this family seems to fit. Just wish I had more proof on Lucinda/Lucille being a child of Lenard and Sarah Canter and marring a Wm.H.Dodson. Thanks again, JoAnn
