His full name was John Harrison Laswell, born in Hardin County (Elizabethtown), KY 0n 07 Apr 1867 and died in Christian County (Hopkinsville), KY on 19 Jul 1943. According to his death certificate his parents were Randolph Laswell and Betty Lewlett of Hardin County. Actually, I believe his mother's name was Elizabeth Howlett. According to the 1880 Census for Hardin County, KY, Dist. 10, Colesburg, the household of Randy Lasswell was listed as follows. Randy Lasswell - W - M - age 42 - farmer Elizabeth - W - age 44 John H. - S - age 14 Joseph L. - S - age 10 Mary M. - D - age 7 William D. - S - age 4 Andrew S. - S - age 2 Howlitt, H. E. - No Relation - age 31 I have not found any marriage record or divorce papers for John Laswell and Kate Dodson (or Catherine Ambrose). However, my mother's birth certificate does list John Laswell as her legitimate father.

The Dodson family is in my husband's line his 4th great-grandmother is Elizabeth Petty Dodson. I do have a picture in fact it happens to be a 5 generation picture. It has Elizabeth Petty Dodson, her daughter Elizabeth Branch Moore, her son James Eli Baker, his daughter Nannie Priscilla Baker and her first daughter Geneva Priscilla there are other family members that were added to this picture but you can see the 5 generations. I'd be more then happy to send, I just have to get my son to help with that as I'm still a novice in most respects. I also made a copy of the head stone you had on the message board for Caleb Dodson. I have enjoyed reading your messages and all the replies now I can finally add more family . I'm very much interested in now going to Tennessee even more so then before to check out all the new information I have obtained. Thank you so much, I'm assuming that you belong to this line and if you are you sound like you have alot of research that you have accomplished. My name is Caroline Jackson and live in Garden City, Michigan, I have two sons and mu husband and I started this research back in the 80's but as it goes his aunts could agree on the same names, dates, and that is why it has taken so long for me to find anything. My husband is now deceased but I'm still working on the family for his sister and my two sons. Let me know if you are interested in the picture I do have. Thanks again for all your knowledge on the Dodsons'. Caroline Jackson

My mother is 89 years old and she can't tell me anything any further back either. My grandmother was Bennie Dodson Odell, she had a sister Bessie Dodson Newsome Roark, a brother named Bud and Robert and maybe others. There is a Dodson reunion every year in Sept. (was last Sunday) but my mother wasn't able to go, it's held in Rockingham County, NC. Mom says the full name of Emma was Emma Zetta Elizabeth Ingletine (sp) Brown. Knows nothing any further back on the Brown side. If you come up with anything, I'd appreciate it if you let me know and I'll do the same.

Surnames: Dodson, Dodgson, Dodgshon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RKT.2ACIB/1487 Message Board Post: Years of research backing down Dodson, with proven resources back to Dodgson of 1729 and 1715, I have a story of why one may loose their way past say 1780. Back enough we all don’t read and write. There we are in Ulverston, Lancashire in 1715. The Vicar is there but comes from elsewhere. Great gobs of accent in his population. He writes with the English script of the time, what he hears. He doesn’t ask how do you spell your name, not to embarrass his resident. His assistants do the same. It was not until I traced, with multiple sources, one Dodgson out of Ulverston to another place, Lancaster (actually backed up to), that I can pin the Dodson back to the Dodgson. See the microfilm of the proven Dodgson and their father’s other characteristics, seen only there, and the birth date confirmed later elsewhere, and this individual Robert Dodgson is one in the same Robert Dodson 25 years later. What happens when one of the Dodgson’s (written by the V! icar) learns to write their name. He copies it out of the Birth Registers or may even be taught by that same Vicar and the Dodgson’s are forever the Dodgson’s yet had they gone elsewhere it could have as easily become Dodson as mine did. Or leave Ulverston without learning to write but carrying the huge accent and it becomes when they do, all the other variations we could come to see. This took three years so no dissing please.

KY online on the Wayne Co. KY site (not Ancestry) and I saw a household of Thomas Dotson which had 1 male and 1 female that was 60-70 and 1 male that was 90-100 (1730-40) and the only Thomas I could find was Thomas b. 1735 the son of George 1702 and Margaret. I see Thomas on the 1767 Pittsylvania Co. Tithable list and I see a Thomas Sr. and Thomas Jr. on the 1782 Census Pittsylvania Co. Va of 5 people and Thomas Sr. at 280 Acres in Pittsylvania and Thomas Jr. with 150 Acres in Pittsylvania Co. VA. I see that he is where George Sr. and George Jr. are. Actually I did not think the three Dodsons listed on the Indiana 1820 census index were George 1702 or George 1737 children, I know that they don't fit but this would fit with Thomas b. 1735.
