    1. [Dodson] DODSON and JONES in LaRue Co. KY (c. 1886)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: labruejones Surnames: DODSON JONES HUNT WILLIAMS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dodson/2010/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have come across a large framed memorial, which I believe stood on an easel at the funeral of the person described therein. I purchased the item at an antique store in Springfield KY. It says .... In loving remembrance of our dear one LOUIS ARVIN JONES Died May 3, 1886 Aged 6 years, 8 months, 9 days. Although I have had this item in my possession for several years, only recently have I been able to learn anything more about the deceased or his family. A search at FamilySearch.org reveals that a child of that name, died on May 3, 1886 in Upton, LaRue county, Kentucky. His father was Lewis Andrew JONES (1842-1912), a son of John JONES and Lucinda HUNT. His mother was Syntha (or Cynthia) Mary DODSON (1855-1933), a daughter of Byrd Granville DODSON and Elizabeth Ellen WILLIAMS. *** I would like very much to return this item into the loving care of Louis' family. I am not related to this family. *** I have posted photos of the memorial for Louis Arvin Jones at my blog. http://oldphotosfound.blogspot.com/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: nssteward Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dodson/2009.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In the Dodson book (2 volumes) there is a marriage record for Albert J. Dodson & Elizabeth Ingram, 5 Dec 1860 in Virginia. I didn't find any info on his descendants in the book. There are quite a few Amandas in the index so without more identifying info it would be pretty difficult to track anything down. When you check with the library ask if they can get it on inter-library loan if they don't have it. The book was published in 1988. Mrs. Sherman Williams was Compiler and Editor and The Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas Jr. was Publisher. Good luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jess14003 Surnames: Kerr, Carr, Dodson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dodson/2007.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for the lead. I'm not sure this is the right Elizabeth since Thomas was born in NC. I am assuming Thomas is her son, which would have had the family leaving Virginia prior to 1800 and I found them on the 1810 census in VA. I will investigate this family further before eliminating them from my search, though. I know there were several Kerr/Carr families that moved to NC from VA. My ancestors are Dabney Kerr and his wife Elizabeth A. (both from Virginia) that moved to Gallia County, Ohio between 1830-1832. My Elizabeth A. (everything with her name included the A) stated she was 68 in 1850, which would have been too young to get married in 1794. It is possible she gave an incorrect age on the census. I am hoping to prove or disprove that Dabney Kerr and Elizabeth A Dodson of Cumberland, VA are the same Dabney and Elizabeth A Kerr of Gallia, Ohio. With the exception of a few older sons that may not have moved with them to Ohio, the ages of the children in 1810 match what I know about the family in Ohio. It could be coincidence, however, and am looking for additional information to help determine if there is a connection between the two families. Thanks, Jessica Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
