I am currently going through the tax digests. What I have available to me ends in 1823. I would like to continue into the 1830 and 1840 era. Has anyone done later tax digest, or even land or probate research in this county? Some of the Dodsons who lived in Wilkes migrated outward to Columbia, Chattahoochee and a dozen or more different counties in Georgia and no telling where else in other states, all prior to 1850. If you know your ancestor was at anytime in Wilkes County and moved on I would like to be able to document that fact and would appreciate you contacting me. I know some of the people I am finding are from the Charles County, MD bunch and some from the Richmond and Halifax County, Virginia bunch. Thanks, MIC

Catherine was born in 1804 in Burke Co. N.C. She married Henry in 1825 in Haywood Co. N.C. Catherine died in 1870. N.C. there is a Joseph Cagle age 35 and wife Esther is age 30. the children are Pinkney age 10, Thomas age 7, Sallie is age 5 and Jane is age 3. In the Haywood co.marriages there is a Jospeh cagle who married an Esther Dodson 13 April 1861.. Could this be your Joseph and Emeline? Maybe they got her name wrong on the marriage.. There was also a Joseph C. Cagle from Haywood Co. who married Mila J. Holyfield 28 Dec. 1856. This might be his first marriage since the 1910 census said he had been married twice.

Cagle was in the 1880 Washington County census as "Kagle". He was in the Civil War, in the Army, and when he came home from the ARmy he taught school in Arkansas. He quit teaching when he went blind. Al. bro. in law Mollie Dodson age 7 step-daughter I think this one in the 1870 census by the name of Levica age 16 is Emeline. they are living near the Gosa's too and also Rile Robertson who is the father of Mollie. Mollie was my grandmother. If you can help me with this I would sure appreciate it. Do you know who Levica's father was?

Thella's parents were Charles Dodson 1848-1914 and Laura Emma 1858-1908. There is references of the DODSON family in the CHurch of the Good Sheperd records in Burke, Virginia. They have a web site. I was sent a page from the record just this week. Some Dodson just died recently and they mentioned it to me. This has been a hard trail to follow. But, I believe they are linked some way.
