Does anyone have more information about this Dodson Family? Roane Co (WV) Family History book, page 138: "Legend has it that the Lewis County (WV) Dodson family descended from one of two brothers who were British soldiers during the American Revolution. They saw the great valley of Virginia, fell in love with its beauty, and resolved that this would be their permanent home. After the war they returned to England, but immediately returned to the Shenandoah. We cannot prove or disprove the legend, but in any event it appears that Joseph Dodson was born in the Shenandoah Valley September 5, 1814 and died in Lewis County February 17 1868: he may have been the son (or grandson) of one of the British soldiers. We find no evidence that Joseph's father ever lived in present day West Virginia." "Joseph married Priscilla Hensley (born 1827) and their first child, Mary E. Dodson was born in 1844. Shortly after the birth of their daughter Joseph and Priscilla moved to Ohio, along with his mother, Elizabeth (born in Pennsylvania in 1781) where their second child, Charles E Dodson was born in 1846. The remaining Dodson children, seven in all, were born in Lewis County (WV)". Children were Louisa C b 1850; Elmer Hensley b. 1852; Jacob C b 1854; Albertus N b. 1857; Hartman N E b. 1860; Elsworth A b 1864; and Porter F b. 1866

According to the book "The Dodson (Dotson) Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia" marriage records: Fauquier County Records: Samuel Dodson - Deliah McQuinn, 23 Sept 1822; Samuel Dodson and John Neale, bonds; oath that Deliah is over 21 by Jno. L. Green. There is a little information on this family on Ancestry.com -- no ancestral information just children. Submitted by Joan Hackett [email protected] and also a submission on Rootsweb.com. Hi Sue, I saw the communication between you and the other two ladies on the Dodson family. I saw that ya'll were talking about a Jesse Dodson and his wife Ruth. I kept on thinking those names sounded familiar to me. I am a Dodson descendant also but I do not have the same connections as you do, I don't think. I wonder if you could help me with this. You maybe talking about some very different people then I am. My Dodson line begins closest to me with my GGG Grandmother, Salina Dodson born on Nov. 8, 1818 in Alabama. She died on Sept. 16, 1902 in Buckholts, Texas in Milam Co. She was married to Joseph Early Little. Salina's parents were Edmund Dodson and Rebecca Fuller. Edmund was born on May 13, 1796 in Georgia and died on Dec.10, 1882 in Cleburne Co, Alabama. Edmund's parents were: Daniel Dodson and Sarah Peters. Daniel was born on April 29, 1769 in Richmond Co. Va. and died on Feb. 25, 1848 in Forest Park, Georgia. Daniel's parents were: Rev. Joshua Dodson, Sr. and Ruth [maybe Rose was her last name but don't know for sure]. Joshua was born on May 25, 1725 in N.Parnham, Va. and died in 1793-08 in Surry, N.C. and his parents were: Thomas Dodson, Sr. and Dorothy Mary Durham. Thomas was born on May 15, 1681 in Richmond Co, Va. and died on Nov. 21, 1741 in Richmond, Va. Thomas parents were: Charles Dodson, Sr. and Anne Dodson. Charles was born in 1649 in Rapphannock, VA. and don't know when or where he died. I don't know if Anne Dodson was a cousin to Charles with the same last name of Dodson or that is her married name. Some say that her father was a BEnjmain Dodson married to an Ann Simms. From Charles Dodson on my line it is only a guess and cannot be proved. I have heard that Charles parents were a Jesse Dodson and Judith Hagger. Then of course, many think that Jesse Dodson's parents were John Dobs and Jane Eagle Plume but I have not proof of that at all. Are your Dodson's related to mine and if so, how are they connected with my line that I have sent above?
