I don't begin to know how to trace our Cherokee heritage. Family names include Lane - I understand this single surname appears in the Book of Nations in OK but I don't know what that means. Dodson is another as well as Ware. Oral family tradition says we have Cherokee ancestors, I'd love to find them. Congratulations and good luck with your Genealogy Cleo [email protected]

I know that he lived in Kentucky and that he moved to Southern Indiana in the late 1800's. I know that he re-married in the early 1900's and after that he seemed to vanish. I believe that his brothers left Kentucky and went west to Oklahoma and Texas and that he may have followed them in that direction...but I have no proof that this actually happened.

I am looking for Edward Dodson who was living with his daughter's family (Copeland) in Alamance Co NC in 1850. and, according to that census, was born abt 1779 in North Carolina. I know his wife was Elizabeth Cummings. Does anyone know his siblings and children? Did he have a brother William? He lived in Orange Co in previous censuses and had at least three sons and one daughter Elizabeth "Betty". I'm trying to connect him to Ella Esperan Dodson of Orange who married Sidney S Cates. Her gravestone says she was born Dec 1850 but there is no girl by those names in 1860 in either Orange or Alamance. Elizabeth Dodson Copeland's husband Ashford was my 3xgreat granduncle.

Thomas and Dalia were the youngest children. They moved to Oklahoma in 1907. There is some confusion with the census records. Have you seen the image of the 1900 census where they have several names misspelled starting with Dadson and they show his wife as Harvey instead of Harriet. Was Minnie her real name or a short for something else? Hope this is the same one. Ina

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RKT.2ACIB/1546.1.3.3 Message Board Post: Interesting...Point is in Rains County, just over the line from Hunt County. My grandmother, Edna Lorraine Dodson born 1903 Hunt County, Texas had a brother named Weldon Dodson born about 1912 also in Hunt County, Texas. Their father was William Richard Dodson born 1875 Chattahoochee County, Georgia. His father was from Wilkes County, Georgia. The family came to Hunt County, Texas about 1885 from Chattahoochee County Georgia. Our two Weldons do not seem to be the same. Guess Weldon was a fairly common Dodson fore-name for the 19-teen era.
