Dodson of Cumberland and Amelia, VA are the same people that showed up in Gallia, OH. According to land patent records, Dabney Kerr served two terms in the War of 1812: Private substitute for George Hughes, Captain Helen's Company and substitute for Caleb Green in Captain Allen's Company Virginia Militia War of 1812. I haven't conclusively found either George Hughes or Caleb Green in Virginia (to identify a county) or a Captain Helen or Captain Allen (are they the same person with the name misspelled?) in VA. There is a Dabney Kerr who shows up on muster rolls For 1 Reg't (Trueheart's) Virginia Militia and 4 Regiment Virginia Militia. Again, I haven't found enough information on either of these regiments to associate them with either Cumberland or Amelia counties. She was the daughter of Clara (Dodson). Her parents were Claude R. Dodson and Alice Belle Blackmon, who married in 1908. I have a Bible that I am guessing belonged to Alice. It has some pages for births and weddings and deaths and Alice put some info down. It would appear that Claude was born to Marcus Dodson and Maggie Adkins, who married in 1880. Maggie apears to have been married to Charles Adkins - in 1877. Charles died in 1879. Previously she was married to Benjamin Filippini - in 1866. Benjamin died in 1876. When she married Benjamin her name was Magie Oliver. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Often (not always) family stories are true. Marginalized people, including lower class English (like John Dods') and Native people did not have formal standing in the government, and often their marriages, deaths, births, and other interactions just are not recorded in court documents. My accepted connection is no more than the word-of-mouth stories by others. These stories assume (never verified) that Jesse, Charles, and possibly one other were the sons of John Dods. These sons wrote their name as 'Dodson.' Would love to see, find, evidence beyond the skimpy facts out there now. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, I appreciate your bringing forward a direct line from John Dods' (Dodson) and Amelia Dodson. Some do not believe that John's last name was indeed Dodson, recorded with the apostrophe, which was an old abbreviation for "son." Do you have more information about the lineage from Millie back to John? That would be appreciated. Denise (Dotson) Low Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This Millie was born in Virginia (Fauquier County) in 1744 and married Jacob Holtzclau in 1767 in Virginia. There are no official records of John Dods' wife except that her name was Jane. Some say it was Jane Eagle Plume (probably a Powhattan Indian), others say Jane was an English lady. At this point, it looks like we will never know for sure.
