    1. Revolutionary War service, Thomas Dodsons, Moses Hanks
    2. I wrote a paper about Moses Hanks for Glenn Gohr's Wolverton Family newsletter. In discussing the paper, we talked about the specific things Moses did (or did not do) to acquire DAR status for all of us. He, as well as the Dodsons and Hills, signed the Oath of Allegiance in Pittsylvania county in 1777. According to Glenn, just signing the oath means you gave service to the colonies' cause. My reply is forth coming: Thanks for explaining the Oath of Allegiance, Glenn. That explains why I couldn't find the specific thing Moses Hanks had done when I looked for it at the DAR library in DC this summer. I DID, however, find out specific service on several other ancestors and I'll write it down right here: Thomas Hill (Henry County--this may not be "our" Thomas Hill, of course) 800 pounds paper currency for rifle gun impressed by Capt. Jonathan Hanby for Henry militia pr. cert. May 1781 (then this probably isn't "our" Thomas Hill) Henry Co. Court booklet I p 61 at a court at Henry Courthouse 2/27/1783 for adjusting claims for property impressed or taken for public service. Present John Salmon, Peter Saunders, Henry John Dilliar and John Renfro, esq. Halifax Co 3/9/1782 Thomas Dodson Sr. 47# bacon L (for British pounds) 2-7; 17 gallons brandy L8-10 one 40 gallon cask, 6 s. Thomas Dodson Jr. p. 25 50 1/2# bacon L2-18-6; 30# bacon, 40# meal L1-13-4; 11 gallons brandy L5-10; 2 bu oats 3s, 5 bu Indian corn 12s-6; 8 farrages (?) 10s; 8 diets (?) 10s; 1 do(?) 1s-3; 2 forrages 1s-6; 2 do.1s-6; 1 diet 1s-3 I don't know what some of those things mean. I suppose the Dodson line would be interested in this; curious, though, those good Baptists dealing in liquor! Michelle Ule Robertule@aol.com Ukiah, CA

    2. Help, I can't seem to find the Creel/Dodson web page. Tried the AOL URL with no luck and then tried all kinds of search engines but no luck. I am looking for information on William H (perhaps Hiram) Dodson and wife, Barbary (surname unknown); believe both born in SC about 1795 - 1800. They were members of the Haysop Baptist Church in Bibb/Tuscaloosa Co., AL in the early 1800's along with Isaac Dodson and other Dodson family members. William might be son of Isaac but unable to prove at this time. William H. and Barbary/Barbara sold four tracts of land in Bibb and Tuscaloosa, AL in 1839 and moved to Hempstead County, Mine Creek, AR. They are there on the 1840 and 1850 census. By 1860, they are found in census records of Smith County, TX. Will share information with others interested in this family. 3. Hi, My name is Rochelle Dotson and I'm researching my family. I have traced them as far as FUlton County Arkansas. My GGrandfather James Porter Dotson Married first a Emily Greyhound,(unknown what happened to her) then a Sarah Elizabeth Roberson (died in Childbirth) and then a Nancy Overfill (Godwin). It is believed that James P. Dotson's fathers name was Green Dotson, wife unknown and that they came to Arkansas from somewhere in Tennessee. I am looking for information on Green Dotson. Will gladly share all the information I already have on Dotsons from James down to today. Thanks!

    3. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 11 Sep 1997 22:30:14 -0700 (PDT) From: CYPRINELLA@aol.com To: DODSON-L-request@rootsweb.com Subject: Dobson Dobson cousins: I am interested in sharing and receiving information on the DOBSON surname. I have been told that the 1st generation American settler of the family could have been a DOTSON and likely entered through Boston. My g-grandfather was Rainer B. Dobson (born June 20, 1829 in SC or NC). I believe his mother's name was Sarah (born Abt 1805) and his sibling's names were Marrianne Dobson (born Abt 1827), James M. Dobson (born Abt 1833), and Elizabeth A. Dobson (born Abt 1837). I know that Rainer, his mother, and his sister Elizabeth (and maybe others) moved to Alabama between 1850 and 1855 where Rainer married Harriet A. Carlisle in 1857. Rainer and Harriet had 11 children, one of which died in infancy. Their youngest child, Walter Lee Dobson (born April 28, 1880), was my grandfather. His sibling's names were: James Thomas Dobson, Rainer M. Dobson, William R. Dobson, Francis M. Dobson, John Perry Dobson, George M. Dobson, Jasper Newton Dobson, Edward Perry Dobson, and Harriet A. Dobson all of which were born between 1859 and 1875 in Coosa County, Alabama. I am very interested in confirming Rainer B. Dobson's parents and siblings and finding new cousins. Information even further back in the family tree would be absolutely magnificent! Hope to hear from someone soon and share information. Terri Dobson Ballard Cyprinella@aol.com

    1. DOBSONs of AL/SC
    2. Dear DOBSON cousins, I am gathering information on my DOBSON ancestors. Rainer B. DOBSON, my great grandfather, was born June 20, 1829 in SC(?) possibly Pickens or Spartanburg County. He moved to Hanover, Coosa County, Alabama around 1850-1855. I believe, and two censuses substantiate, that at least one of his siblings (Elizabeth) and his mother moved to AL with him but were not enumerated with him. I believe his mother's name was Sarah A. Dobson (maiden name unknown), born about 1805. His siblings were: Marrianne Dobson (born Abt 1827), James M. Dobson (born Abt 1833), and Elizabeth A. Dobson (born Abt 1837). Rainer married Harriet A. Carlisle in 1857 in Coosa County, AL. They had 11 children, the first of which died in infancy. These children were: James Thomas Dobson (b. 1859), Rainer M. Dobson (b. 1862), William R. Dobson (b. 1864), Francis (Frank) M. Dobson (b. 1866), John Perry Dobson (b. 1868), George M. Dobson (b. 1870), Jasper Newton Dobson (b. 1872), Edward P. Dobson (b. 1874), Harriet A. Dobson (b. 1875), and Walter Lee Dobson, my grandfather (b. 1880). Any information on these individuals or their ancestors would be greatly appreciated. I would love to exchange more information with anyone. One person I spoke with says that she thinks that this family or their DOBSON ancestors may have been DOTSONs and possibly entered the U.S. through the ports of Boston from England, Ireland, or Scotland. Thanks, Terri Dobson Ballard

Presently, I working on imputting all the data sent to me into Family Tree for Windows. Eventually, I hope to add old pictures, a downloadable master gedcom, and of course the outlines.
