Russell........please do! I don't care what anyone puts on this list as long as it's relating to genealogy and Dodson/Dotson in some manner and there are no long attachments that cause older machines to freeze up. No one is complaining about the short attachments so I assume everyone is okay with these appearing from time to time. Baptist Church Minutes are still available to anyone (there are some new subscribers who may not know about those) but I have to send those individually as that file is 86 pages long. Please don't feel you have to ask permission to post genealogy related messages to this list. Dodson books, maps, deeds, wills, and even recipes can be posted as long as it's a Dodson recipe! If you find a Dodson web page or a Stamps or Goad or any web page connected to Dodson, please share it with the list. If you find any web site that may help even one person researching Dodson/Dotson, please share. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!! I dont thank that you can find this book to purchase it was published in 1908 and I belive it is out of print. Rev. Ege brakes his book into four sections. 1st"Colonial Annals of Virginia mentions "Dodson's Plantation" in 1632" 2nd. " Dean's History of Scituate, Massachusetts, records the name of Anthony Dodson and descendants from 1650 to 1705" 3rd. "Maryland Colonial Records in the old State House of Annapolis, mentions the arrival there of a John Dodson in 1656, followed later by a son John and a daughter Katharine. These Johns settled in Calvert and Charles Counties. Their wills are also of record there in 1733 and later" 4th. " The arrival of Dodsons in 1677 at the New Quaker settlement of Burlington, New Jersey." With Alledy's permission I would be willing to give a brief Introduction of each section from the book. Russell Dodson.
Hi All, In an effort to put something back into the internet genealogy community, I have volunteered to host the "Westmorland Look-Up Exchange" Page at my home pages. The address is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/2544/West.htm If you have records relating to Westmorland County, England that you are willing to look-up for other genealogy buffs, please visit the page and then contact me with the details and I will add your name to the currently miniscule (but watch it grow folks) list of volunteers. If your not able to help, then why not visit anyway and bookmark it for future reference. Regards, Colin
I haven't seen the book by Rev. Lucas. The book on the DODSONs of North Farnham Parish, VA isn't just on southern lines. It begins with Charles, Sr. but branches out all over the states. I just lifted this off of my web page so ignore the numbers and + signs. (+ indicates ancestors that I have already put on my web page.) Book begins with Charles, Sr, in North Farnham Parish, VA. Tells about his children, who they married, their children, where they moved to, gives sources for information, where to locate wills and other documents. Gives mililtary history for some. Quotes census records. Easy enough to send away and get copies of records since book refers to Volume and Page no. for documents. Index has the states as well as the names listed. If you know they were in Ohio, you can look under Ohio, then the county and find where to locate copies of the records. Parts of deeds and wills are already in the book. I haven't counted the states to see if all 50 are covered but it sure looks that way. Even Hawaii is in the index. Help I am stuck. I have Dodson lineage back to James Jeremiah Dodson who came to the US in late 17th century along with his two brothers Elisha Simmon Dodson and John Paul Dodson. The brothers landed in Louisana and went there own ways one east one west and one north. James Jeremiah Dodson went north up the Mississippi River to the mouth of the Arkansas River and went up the Arkansas river to eastern Oklahoma. James Jeremiah Dodson married the daughter of an Osage Indian Chief (her name was Bright Star). James Jeremiah Dodson was later scalped by Bright Stars people for telling tribal secrets. Bright Star later took their two sons Newton Columbus Dodson and John Jeremiah Dodson and moved to Cambridge Massachusetts where she put them thru Havard University. The decendants lived in Ripley Co Missouri and later in Arkansas. If you see any resemblances to your research please contact me.

Looking for information on DODSON/DOTSON family living in Gasconade County, MO in 1850-1860's. Rebecca Jane DODSON/DOTSON may have married John BRANSON, the John REED. Rebecca had a brother, Franklin DODSON/DOTSON, and a sister Matlida DODSON/DOTSON who married Pleasant Pankey. Franklin's wife was named Tabitha and in 1860 they lived in Miller County, MO. Their son was named Zebulon DODSON, who was a cousin of my GGrandfather, Pleasant C. REED. Pleasant was a son of Rebecca and John. Rebecca was born in TN around 1826. Don't know anything about the parents and all leads about DODSON'S/DOTSON'S in Gasconade have proven futile. HELP!!!!

From Alley Blackford wchs@prodigy.net (I found this on another mailing list & thought you might be interested in this posting.) "This note was posted recently: > In a 1995 Prodigy posting, Marion Morgan described an article by a Mrs . C. T. Dodson which stated John > DODSON came to America with Captain John Smith in 1607 and married an Iroquois girl named Jane. I > would like information on this John Dodson and his descendants which lead through some four generations > to Eleanor Dodson who married John Stamps (ca. 1740 - 1812) (a DAR patriot) probably in Halifax County, > VA. Eleanor Dodson Stamps was the grandmother of my gggrandfather William Lipscomb Stamps (1815- > 1896) of Milford, NC. The list of those who sailed with Christopher Newport and John Smith is widely published. I have never seen a DODSON on that list, but there is a John DOD. I am descended from both Dodsons and Dodds, and I'd love to claim him as mine. However, I don't believe any one has, to date, ever published any evidence that suggests that John Dod had children. It's my understanding that the Ancient Planters society recognizes no one's claim of descendancy from him. His wife, Jane, is believed to have come from England on a later ship. They were both listed in the 1624 muster of English living in Virginia. I'm no expert on either of these families, but this is what my investigations have revealed. The Stamps and Dodson families moved to Halifax Co. from Fauquier Co. in the late 1760s and early 1770s. Libbie Griffin
I have PART of the DODSON book online along with my direct line. I no longer know which branches of DODSON/DOTSON lines are on my web site but for those of you who are interested and would like to see my DODSON web page the address is: http://pages.prodigy.net/wchs "Shenandoah Ancestry" Scroll to bottom of page and click for "DODSON Ancestry" or DODSON News" This file is now over 30 pages long so you may want to SAVE and read offline. There are two web sites that I've found that list Jamestown settlers. There is NO DODSON listed. Somewhere in the book on "DODSON/DOTSON of North Farnham Parish" is information on the "Jamestown Jesse DODSON" that we have often heard about. A woman in FL (I think) is given credit for that story. The woman was apparently good at making up great stories to sell family histories to others. She was arrested for fraud. When I find the page again in the book I will post it here along with a word for word quote. On my web page for DODSON, I have them all listed as DODSON even if they were using the DOTSON spelling. This is because Brothers Keeper will not show them as members of the family they are from if the spelling is changed. There were quite a few DOTSON families but I've found my own line spelled as DOTSON/DOTTSON/DODSON. Depended on how the census taker chose to spell the name.
