Someone posted info last week listing the Anne who married Charles Dodson Sr. as an Elmore. Is that a for-sure, or maybe? Where did that info come from? I've added DAVID DODSON, b. 1766 in Va and d. abt 1830 in Maury Co TN, (Fortunatus, George, Thomas, Charles,Sr.) and his children and marriages. I also added his sister Sarah, children and marriages. John, I'm forwarding this message to the Dodson e-mail list. I don't know if you are on that list or not. Possibly someone else has further information. The 2-vol. Dodson book, on p. 1257 lists a Miller Dodson in Culpeper Co., VA in the 1820 Census on p. #071A of the census film along with several other Dodsons. On p. 1417 of the Dodson book, for Patrick Co., VA is listed a Miller Dodson who married Jane Philpott on 21 April 1831; Robert G. Aistrap, surety; Bird Lowe, minister. In parentheses is the note that this is the same as Milton R. Dodson. There are other records in Patrick County for Milton R. Dodson. I believe the ancestry of Milton R. Dodson is traced in the book, but not for a Miller Dodson. This is all I find on Miller Dodson. If Milton and Jane (Philpott) Dodson are your ancestors, then I can look for more references for you. Hi, Saw your posting on the list and was interested that you listed Oldfield as one you were researching. My Ggrandfather married a Nancy Oldfield on 09/20/1893. His name was James Porter Dotson. She had been married previously to someone named Godwin and had one son William, prior to marrying my Ggrandfather. She was born 12/22/1867, in TN it is believed. Does she sound familiar to you??? I don't know of a Dodson family digest but there is a place for queries on the GENFORUM. Genforum got a lot of bad publicity for awhile and I've forgotten why. It's doing fine now as far as I can tell. People post their queries there and sometimes get a reply. You'll find DODSON and DOTSON. Just click on the letter D and go to whichever one you want. The book lists the states and counties with information on individuals from that county but the index does not list: Kansas, Benjamin Dodson or anything like that. Mary Jane DODSON (born ca 1838) was married 13 DEC 1857 in Bracken Co, KY to George Thomas Hitt. Her father, George DODSON, signed a permission slip for a marriage license to be given. He signed DODSON, not Dotson. Aaron Hitt signed as witness. Mary Jane and her husband lived in the southern part of Bracken Co for awhile, then moved to the Bratton area in Robertson Co, KY. I have not found a death record on Mary Jane. I do not know her mother's name. I can find no records of George DODSON in Bracken Co, KY. There was a George Dodson in Mason Co, KY at this time but the census in 1850 didn't mention Mary Jane. Does anyone have information on a George Dodson, including in any surrounding counties, that might have had a daughter Mary Jane born ca 1838 ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. The Dodson book 1600-1907 has some records that the Lucas book dosnt have. The Lucas book pretty well stays with the Descendabts of Charles Dodson and the 1600 book also list the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland Branches of Dodson's that were From Knaresborough, Yorkshire England. While these Dodson 's could have been linked to Charles Dodson no one has ever done so to my knowledge. 1 Daniel and Susanne Dodson Children 2 John Dodson, b. March, 1655 3 Susanne, b. abt 1657 4 David b. abt 1659 5 Dorthy, b. abt 1661 6 Mary b.Nov.17th, 1664 7 William b. abt. 1666 8 Thomas b. Oct.19th 1669 The Burlington Records, New Jersey, furnished the names of the three who came in 1677 with other Quaker settlers to their ;new settlement, and stated Yorkshire as the place of their English home. This fact gave the clue for research in England. The fact that they were Quakers limited the search somewhat to the Society of Friends, and their various places of meeting, as well as to the Parish Records of the English Church in the vicinity of Friends meetings. It is worthy of note that the only Dodson names, found by expert research in any Friends' Meeting Records, were in this one of Knaresborough: and while Dodson names were found in the Parish Records, both before and after the time of this partgicular family, none of the above names were found in them. The friends record as given was beaautifully kept and well preserved, and it is a matter of regret that the expert searcher was so rejoiced to find the names of the News Jersey three, that the exact birth dates of all the others of the family were not taken. There may seem to be a difficulty in reconciling the fact that Mary and Thomas were so young at the time of their coming to New Jersey in 1677. This may be explained as follows: The parents of these brothers and sister may have died, and John, the oldest son, was responsible for the care of this youngest brother and sister. Besides this, a reference in the Town Annals of Burlington show that the Buntings were related to the Dodsons, in whose company they came, and it is very probable that the wife of John was one of this family, as no record of his marriage is found there, except that he had children. Mary and Thomas, therefore, had care-takers during the period of their youth. This was taken from the 1600-1907 book. Russell Dodson
