    3. Or perhaps John Dods. is an abbreviation. When I was in England there seemed to be a tendancy to abbreviate. Hamps.=Hampshire, Yorks.=Yorkshire, etc. I've seen the muster list, which a breakdown of his personal property--but I've only seen a copy. I don't know about primary documentation. Ask an early-American History professor. I do medieval Europe. Rebecca Lambert lambertr@clinton.afsc.k12.ar.us

    3. Hello All, Looking for information on Thomas DODSON/DODGSON b:1798 in Darrington, Yorkshire, England. He married an Elizabeth. They came to America and settled in Argyle, Lafayette Co., WI. Their children were: 1. Hannah, b: 1836 in England, m: John BISHEL, then married second Thomas Alexander FRAME. Hannah had William, Elizabeth, Arthur, John BISHEL, by her first marriage, and George, Marcus FRAME, and possibly a set of twins by her second marriage to Thomas. Macus was adopted by the Cooper Family and left Argyle. 2. John, b: ? Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for you time. Sincerely, Randy Treadway

    3. Regarding John Dods, I keep wondering if on the Jamestown record where he is listed--I've seen a book reference to "The Muster of John Dods" I believe. Anyway, it lists him and when he came to Jamestown, and probably the name of the ship he came on. I keep wondering if the original handwritten document became torn or something. The last 2 letters could have been torn off, and the person who recorded it later only wrote down what they could read. We are talking really old records when you get back to Jamestown. I'd sure like to know what primary sources still exist of records from Jamestown. I look in my phonebook and find no "Dods"--only "Dodds" or "Dodson", etc. Anyway, it makes no sense to add on to the name after arriving in VA. I can't see Dods becoming Dodson. I also wonder if there are any land records or proof of any descendants of the John Dods who would have retained that spelling? Just some food for thought. Glenn Gohr ggohr01@mail.orion.org

    3. I would like to know if there is any *proof* that William and Jesse DODSON were actually connected to the Charles DODSON of Virginia. Also, I have a question. I don't understand the statement "Chief Eagle Plume of Colorado, an Iroquois". There was no Colorado in the 1600s. The Iroquois were from the northern part of what is now the United States, and also Canada. I believe there was another DODSON line which hasn't proved to be part of Charles' family. Is it known *which* of these lines William and Jesse were on? Help, please? Barbara Couser

I have no idea what the word Colorado meant or means.

    3. Hi Demascus, I'm confused. Or I find this confusing. John DODS was born in England. Son Jesse DODSON is born in VA. His son, Charles DODSON, is born in England? Jesse goes back to England to have his son and then returns with son? Why was the name changed to DODSON? Usually, names were shortened after coming to America. This time it was lengthened? Have any documents been found to prove the name DODS was changed to DODSON? Please post to list. We've all been curious about this and most will want to see any replies. 3. Like most of you, I receive more daily e-mail sometimes than I know what to do with. One way we can eliminate some messages that are not intended for the entire list is to follow this suggestion: After reading a message that you want to respond to, click on the icon that says, "Reply to Author." Then type your response and click the "Send" icon. This will direct your message only to the author of the original message and not to the entire list. This would eliminate many of us receiving "Thank you" notes and acknowledgements that don't apply to us. Gene Ray Atlanta

I get a lot of information from researchers on the internet and I can not verify its accuracy. This information should be used as a research guide and not taken to be fact as I have certainly not verified its accuracy. 3. I have been researching the DODSON line for about two years. Mostly through research of what others have posted here online. This is the first time I have seen the DODS information and I find it kinda exciting. I was wondering where you found that information and who the Chief Plume.....father of Jane was. Please share as much as you can about that earliest generation. My grandpa always said that we had Indian Blood....I am assuming that Chief...means that he was Indian. Eagerly awaiting your reply.
