Kathleen, Are you talking about the book "The Dodson (Dotson) Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Virginia" by The Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr.? If so, I have that set of books and it does have an index. The only Sampson Dodson I find in them was born c1809 and died 23 June 1877, and his father was Nimrod Dodson. If I can be of further help let me know. Louisa Dotson
Hello Friends, The library has offered to copy pages of Mr. William's book for me. The problem is, I have no idea which pages to request. Would someone who is familiar with this book, please suggest what to ask for? I'm not certain that my line is in this book. I'm researching Sampson DODSON/DOTSON , b. c1787 VA. died 1850's Dent CO., MO. Does this book contain an index? I'm at a loss, here. Your help would be most appreciated. Thank you, Kathleen Mazil kmazil@ix.netcom.com
I'm trying to find information on my gggrandmother Jane Dodson. I know very little about her. I do think that at one time she lived in TN, possibly was born there, and that she married a man by the name of AYLES (or AILES). We believe that his initials were E.J. and that he may have come from LA. They moved to New Madrid County MO and had a daughter named Jenny Ann. Jane had sisters Katie and Belle (and poss. more). Some of my info could be wrong but I believe most of it to be correct. If this sounds familiar to anyone I'd love to hear from them. Thanks, Cathy

Are your Dodsons and Suttons from Randolph county Arkansas? I have a Dodson connection and a Sutton connection. My Suttons are related to the Noblins, Bates and Whites. The Dodsons come in later related to the Whites, Harkness and Holt. Any connection? Judy
Hi, thanks for the response. I just for the first time have sat down and entered what I have into my family tree maker. My uncle sent me a lot of work that he did about 30 years ago. Unfortunately it is hard to follow. I will try not to confuse you but it appears that I am from two lines of George Washington Dodson and Elizabeth Faggan. On George I have him born March 18, 1779 Laurens Co., SC. In the notes I have it says George was from Scotland and was Scotch Irish . It states that he was a Baptist preacher. The church that he preached at was called the Old Jeruslem. In Columbia Co.,Arkansas. I don't have a b. date on Elizabeth Faggan but show her b. GA. her father Michael Fentress Fagan. I have 10 children for them. I have them married abt. 1807 New Echota, Cherokee Nation,GA. My first line from their son William Faggan Doson b. 1819 d. May 20, 1874 spouse Lucinda Lollar. I have her being born in Alabama. 1822. d. bef 1870 their daughter Elizabeth Faggan b. December 24, 1842 married Hillery Taylor July 4, 1867 their son Hillery Herbert Taylor married Martha Eula Dodson their daughter Bessie May Taylor b. February 6, 1909 m. 1st J. D. Magouyrk my uncles father-- the m.2nd Samuel Abner Curlee my mother's father Sandra Gail Curlee my mother married Clarence Edward Cearley. My second line of George Dodson and Elizabeth Faggan is from their son Richard B. Dodson and spouse Lucy A. Dumas their daughter Martha Eula Dodson b. September 18, 1880 m. Hillery Herbert Taylor December 27, 1903 I hope this makes sense to you. I have William Faggan and Lucinda Lollar with 13 children. In one of the stories that my uncle collected it has that one of the Lolly or Lollar brothers killed a man and had to leave for his fear of his life. He came to what is now Columbia Co. and sent back word of the opportunities here. After they had all moved here (William Faggan, Charles, Richard B. Augustine Prior and Micajah) the Lollar man and William Faggan were penning hogs, when the job was completed they ran to the spring. Lollar reaching the spring first fell to drink the water. A rattlesnake srtuck him in the forehead. He died bbefore they could get him to the house. (Told by Willie Dodson, son of Ben Franklin Dodson son of Joseph Payne Dodson son of William F. Dodson.--- I have a little more on some of William Faggan's children if you want it. I would love to know you line and compare notes!!!!! I think I've got your William Fagin Dodson, m. to Lucinda Lilley Lollar. I''ve got him from SC and her from Ark. His father was George Dodson, b.~1780. William and Lucinda had a multitude of children: George William, John Washington, Betsy, Jack, Thomas Benton, Cathron, William Jr., Charles Louis, Jencie, Lucinda, Joseph Pain, Bragg, Benjamin, and a child, Paul, by Alcie Sutton. Where is your connection.
Trying to locate Jesse DODSON who married Judith COMBS 19 March 1793 in Halifax CO., VA. They were in White Co., TN, in 1818 with Polly Combs HAMBLET and Thomas DODSON, wife Phebe COMBS. Elizabeth C. and Berriman HAMBLET were in White Co., TN, at that time. Elizabeth C. Hamblet moved to Hickman/ Graves Co., KY, after her husband died. There was a Jesse Dodson in near by Hardin Co., KY. Was that Jesse and Judith Combs Dodson? What happened to Thomas Dodson and wife Phebe? Did they remain in White CO., TN or did they move? Would like to hear from descendants. Thanks, Arlina < amoss@sunline.net >
In Maury Co., TN, there is the marriage in 1835 of Elizabeth HAMBLET, widow of William Hamblett, to a DAVID DODSON. I really research the Hamblet line, but I can't find out enough about this particular Elizabeth Hamblet. I believe her to be Elizabeth THURNOND from Nelson Co., VA. I thought perhaps it would help if I could identify David Dodson and learn about him. I would appreciate hearing from anyone about this family. Thanks, Arlina < amoss@sunline.net >
I am looking for any information on the Dodson line of William Faggin Dodson b. 1819 and spouse Lucinda Lollar b. 1822. They lived in Alabama>Mississippi>Arkansas. Thanks Elizabeth Cearley-Moore
Hi, I have George Dodson and Sutton connections but mine are not connected to each although your George could be connected to my Dodsons. There were several George Dodsons of same time period. My George Dodson was born 1776 Patrick/Pittslvania Co VA. I think we need a forum for just George Dodsons.!! Good luck with your search. What state did you find your family in? I could start there and see if I can make a connection to mine. Judy
Yes! Joseph Pain Dodson did have a brother Benjamin. But that's all the information I have on him.
Judy, At this time I don't have any information on Benjamin Dodson, who was a son of Joseph Hiram Dodson. Will let you know if I find anything. Carlene
My Benjamin Franklin Dodson had to be born before 1879 as his first child Rhoda Belle Dodson was born 15 March 1880. His wifes nane was Delia?. Many things are the same but the dates are wrong. As I said before Sutton is the madain name of Nancy Tennessee Noblins mother. I just reciently found out the Sutton name and am waiting for a lady to send me more info on that line. This line was in Randolph, Clay and Lawrence county Arkansas. Where was your family from? Did Joseph Pain have any brothers that could have been named Benjamin also? Judy
