    3. Peggy & all, Congratulations on your success in getting your line documented on the Samples and Dodsons with DAR. I descend from Rev. Thomas Dodson who married Elizabeth Rose (he also is a Rev. War patriot). I sent in a supplemental application on him for the Sons of the Am. Revolution. I also have a supplemental through his son, Second Fork Thomas Dodson who married Mary Neville. I've recently gotten some new info. on the Rose connection. Also there is some discussion going on the Durham line which MAY tie in to the Smoots of MD & VA. That was posted on the Dodson list earlier and Alley Blackford has put the Durham-Smoot info. on her webpage along with some other early Dodson puzzles and questions. Her webpage (quite well done) is located at: http://pages.prodigy.net/wchs Now you mentioned a DAR application of Elizabeth Fuller Sloan. I think she must be the daughter or a close relative of Frank Fuller who was an early Dodson historian. He is supposed to have compiled a book on the Dodsons before 1960. Does anyone have a copy of this book?? Also you mention a book: "Genealogy of Charles Dodson of Southwest Virginia" by W.H Dodson Do you have this book? When was it published? How many pages is it? How could I obtain a copy? Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Glenn Gohr ggohr01@mail.orion.org

Nathaniel Dodson and descendants are listed on pp. 993-994 of the 2-vol. Dodson book by Mrs. Sherman Williams and Rev. S. E. Lucas, Jr. Nathaniel wasb. ca. 1822; d. 1910 Dodd City, Fannin Co., TX; md. 10 Sept. 1842 Rhea Co., TN to Mary SMITH (d. 1 Jan. 1891, Webster Co., MO; buried in Whittenburg Cemetery, Webster Co. I noticed the Webster Co., MO reference as I live in Springfield, MO in a neighboring county. At the end of the article it says that the info. on Nathaniel Dodson & descendants came from: Mrs. Sue Ikerd, Route 1, Box 574, Conway, MO 65632. Anyway, my wife's parents live at Conway, MO, and I have met Mrs. Sue Ikerd before. I'll have to get in touch with her and talk Dodsons now!! Nathaniel Dodson is son of Samuel Dodson/Dotson, b. ca. 1800 TN, d. aft. 1850 in Rhea Co., TN; md. 1st, Frances Nash (b. ca. 1804 VA), dau. of Thomas Nash. Samuel Dodson/Dotson is son of Thomas Dodson-5, Samuel Dodson-4, John Dodson-3, Lambeth Dodson-2, Charles Dodson-1. These are all covered in the 2-vol. book. Also of interest is the name Abner Dodson and the surname of Hutcherson. Also in the 2-vol. Dodson book on pp. 140-141 is information on another Abner Dodson, b. in Pittsylvania Co., VA and son of David Dodson-4, George Dodson-3, Thomas Dodson-2, Charles Dodson-1. This Abner is in my line on the Dodson side. He also married Elizabeth "Betsy" Woolverton who is related to me on the Woolverton side of the family. Betsy's father was Andrew Woolverton who is my direct ancestor. Anyway, this Dodson family lived in Maury Co., TN in the 1800s and had a son named James Nevel Dodson (which gives credence to our extended Dodson & Hanks families being related to the Neville family). Info. on the descendants of this Abner and Betsy (Woolverton) Dodson was supplied by Mrs. Sallie HUTCHERSON, a granddaughter of James Nevel Dodson. I hope this helps someone. 3. Glenn Do you have any info on Nathan Dodson married to Merry, from Memphis TN. Came to Wright Co MO apox 1850. I've seen reference to him as Nathaniel Dodson I believe his headstone has Nathan, and the 1900 census has him as Nathan. Nathan was the father of Abner Dodson. Abner Dodson married Mary Mahalie Cantrell Abner was the father of Ada Jane Dodson Ada Jane Dodson married William Monroe Hutcherson Ada was the mother of James Truman Hutcherson James married Frances Harriett Williams James was the father of Madelyn Jewel Hutcherson (me) Now I have a Gore/Goar/Gohr question William Monroe Hutcherson's mother was Edie Louranie Brewer She married a William Gwin, then Thomas Clayton Hutcherson, then a William Gore from St. Louis. 1. Dodson, Savage
    2. Lee Savage
    3. Here is my info for any new people who may joined the list. This info is very vague, but I hope that someone out there may be able to help me as I have come to dead end. V.Y. Savage born in 1876, place unknown, possibly in Texas. His parents were either Molly or Dorcus Dodson and a man with the last name of Savage Trying to locate anything on the Dodson, she may have never married the father of V.Y. The only other info we have is that she may have been living on a ranch in Oklahoma, and V.Y. may have killed a man when he was 12 years, and his mom gave him the last name of Savage to keep the law from finding him. Also another story is that she was living in Denton County, Texas when he was born and the father would not marry her, because he was of a wealthy family, so she just gave him the Savage name. So if any one out there may have heard any of this please let me know as we would really like to find out anything on the Dodson side. Rose rmsavage@swbell.com

    2. Peggy, My gt-gt-gt-gt grandfather William Creel is cousin to Timothy Dodson (twice). William and Timothy lived on adjoining farms in Hermitage Station, TN. I found in the 'Davidson County, Tennessee History' book a nice write-up and picture of Timothy. I have a question for you. Do you know exactly where the Dodson Family Cem is located? I was given directions but I could not find it. It was suppose to be close to the Creel Family Cem off of Dodson Chapel Road and Old Hickory. It is believed that William buried a couple of his children there. Kim

    3. On page 1542 of the "Dodson Book by Lucas" It list a Isaac Dodson b-1804 as having a wife Susannah ? I can fill this in a little more. I found in the Facts andf folks of Jefferson county Il. the following write up on Oscar Stich. "In 1862 George Stich married Delilah Dodson whose father, Isaac Dodson, and mother, Martha Fyke Dodson. had come to Illinois from Tennessee driving two carts pulled by oxen, settling in the Hopewell neighborhood. Isaac and Martha are buried in the Hopewell cemetery. Three children were born to George and Delilah: Oscar, Fred A. and Martha. " I dont know wether Martha's middle name was Sussanna are not . I also called the author of this write up and she said that Martha was a invalid when she came to IL. She apperantly died in 1862 shortly after arriving here because Isaac remarried Aug. 3 1863. He married a Mariah E.Criswell and they had two children, Mariah E b-1865 and Charles M b-1867. Isaac died July 28,1878 7pm in Webber Township of acute bronchitis complicated by paralysis variety hemiplegia. Burried Hopewell cemetary July 29 1878 . J.J. Fly, Mt.Vernon Il. undertaker . J.H. 3. DODSON, TIMOTHY I am new to this chat line and have read all your questions and I feel some of the people you are asking about connect to me but I don't yet know how. I don't know if it's permitted to send such a long email and if it would be helpful to others but I would like to share my line and if some one is researching any of the children of Timothy Dodson , I would appreciate the information. I established the TIMOTHY DODSON SAMPLE line first and have DAR membership on that line. Next I began the supplements and established the JOHN BUCHANAN line and the GEORGE RIDLEY LINE and now the TIMOTHY DODSON line. My research was in Nashville, Tenn. at the State Archives. They all lived there near each other. My line of DODSON'S starts with TIMOTHY DODSON, born Oct. 14, 1778 in Halifax Co., VA. In 1803 he married Agnes Wilson in Halifax Co. They moved to Nashville Tenn., Davidson Co. in 1808. They had 13 children: LUCY THORNTON DODSON born Oct. 6, 1806 and married THOMAS BETTS Sample on April 27, 1825. Lucy and Thomas were my great great grand parents. Other children were JEFFERSON DODSON, JULIA DODSON married Bird Fitzgerald, THOMAS DODSON, ELIZABETH DODSON married J. W. Pennington, TIMOTHY DODSON, MARY DODSON married George Ridley, JOSEPH DODSON married Mattie Curd, LOUISA B. DODSON, SARAH ANN DODSON AND CALEB DODSON, and WILLIAM DODSON married Elizabeth Ann Curd. There are DAR paper filed by Elizabeth Fuller Sloan who lived in Jonesboro, Ark. Her line is through Joseph Dodson, son of Timothy Dodson. Timothy Dodson was the son of CALEB DODSON born 1752 in Fauquier Co. Va. and Elizabeth Petty . They had 10 children. WILLIAM THORNON DODSON came to Tennessee with his brother Timothy. William married a Sally Young in Halifax, Co., VA. She was the daughter of Josiah Young and his wife Elizabeth Ferrell. One of Caleb's brothers, Joseph also came to Tennessee and had a large family. I don't much about those children. CALEB was the son of JOSEPH DODSON born Feb. 21, 1725 in Richmond Co. VA., and Joseph was the son of REV. THOMAS DODSON, JR., and his father was THOMAS DODSON SR. whose father was CHARLES DODSON Sr? I have proof to Caleb Dodson. the rest of the line was found in the "Genology of Charles Dodson of Southwest Virginia" by W.H Dodson. Peggy Sample Reen email address explorer@pop.nlci.com
