    3. Hi! I think I have a connection. I don't have anything on the Goads or Dagords other than their marriages into the Dodsons but here's what I have. George Dodson 1702-1740 married Margaret Dagord (b. 1708 in Richmond Co., VA) in 1726 in Richmond Co., VA. George was the son of Thomas Dodson and Mary Durham. Earlier in the line I have John Dodson b.1687 marrying an Elizabeth Goad who was born about 1687 near Farnham in Richmond Co. Hope this helps. Rene

    1. Bartholomew Richard Dodson
    2. F. S. MacDonald
    3. I'm fairly new to this very active list, and have been interested in reading all the comments and queries. My research is based on the Lucas book, Dodson Family of N. Farnham Parish, as is so many others. My line is from John (b.1720-1730), who is thought to be a son of Lambeth, but could possibly be the son of Bartholomew Richard Dodson. I haven't seen anything on the list about Bartholomew. Does anyone have any more recent information on this family, or does anyone have stronger evidence of John's parents? I'll be happy to exchange information, but there seems to be some very knowledgeable Dodson cousins out there who have more data than I have. Thanks for anything anyone can add. They provide links to just about anything and everything a genealogist could ever possibly want. I post them here mostly for the benefit of the new people: 1) HUGE Source list for Genealogical Research http://www.ukans.edu/heritage/research/dbd.html 2)The Beaucoup Link Page http://www.beaucoup.com/engbig.html If either of these links prove helpful, please let others know about them, and drop me a line also so I don't feel like an utter failure. 1. Bermuda Durhams
    2. GENE B ROOKS
    3. Jo brought up a valid point. It is possible that our Thomas DURHAM of Richmond Co. could still be part of that Bermuda DURHAM family, just not Henry's son. There was a Thomas Durham young emigrant into Bermuda in 1620, he died in 1653. He had sons Thomas, Henry who married Judith Hunt, Moses, and Joseph. My information does not show any children born to the other siblings of Henry in the Southampton Parish Register, but that doesn't mean they didn't have any, and another cousin Thomas born ca. 166? is certainly not out of the question. Happy hunting, Gene in FL

    3. Hi, Good point. This does get a little confusing. The Dodsons it seems enjoyed naming their offspring the same in each Dodson family. I am still struggling with my George Dodson. I did notice the line "aforesaid mariner." Which also leads you to wonder, a sailor with a girl (or wife) in each port?? More likely the two gentlemen might have been cousins?? Same generation?? Do you suppose we will evvvvvver know?? Just pondering?? I really have enjoyed everyone's posts. I regret that I have so little original to offer, but am really interested to hear you all discuss our Dodson ancestors. Thanks so much for the information. The IGI gives us good leads but we all need to investigate the documentation ourselves. It is so nice to get input from others. 1. Henry Durham's son? NOT!
    2. GENE B ROOKS
    3. Hi, guys, I haven't posted to this list before, but I've just scanned your archives and found some really good information there. However, one question has been debated on that I finally had to research for myself. This is the question of the parents of Thomas DURHAM whose daughter Mary married Thomas DODSON Sr. of Richmond Co., VA. I had found the IGI charts which suggested he was son of Henry Durham and wife Judith Hunt of Bermuda, with the Grimsditch, etc., lineage. It sounded good, dates fit, even political times and practices of Bermuda fit, so I bought it. UNTIL I wrote Bermuda Archives for something to finally prove it. They sent me a copy of a case in the Court of Assize in 1734 involving an Action of Trespass, which involved one Richard Durham of Sandys as heir to estate of Thomas DURHAM, of the same parish. Thomas was the son of Henry DURHAM who died in 1692. The cover letter also said "This seems to suggest that Thomas was living in Bermuda and not America, though I can trace no direct proof. I can not locate a copy of Henry Durham's will, which I believe would indicate where his son was located." Here is a brief abstract of the court case, see if you don't think it pretty well implies the known Thomas DURHAM born 1661 to Henry Durham and Judith Hunt lived and died in Bermuda, and is NOT our Thomas DURHAM, allied with the Dodson family. "An action of Trespass and Ejectment to trye the title of Richard Durham of Sandys tribe marriner, Eldest son and heir of Thomas DURHAM Late of the same Gent: dec'd, who was the son of Henry DURHAM Esq. to one full sixth part of one share of land....being in Southampton Tribe aforesaid, lately in the possession of Judith DURHAM Late widow& Relict of the said Henry Durham Esq. decd, and now in the possession or occupation of Dan'll Durham of Southampton tribe aforesd marriner....." This clearly defines the relationship of the actual Thomas Durham, son of Henry, and furthermore shows he died in Bermuda leaving an estate and an eldest son Richard DURHAM, none of which correlates with Thomas Durham with wife Dorothy who died in Richmond Co., VA, in 1715, leaving children Thomas Jr., Mary, and John, named in his will filed in Richmond Co., VA. I don't know who the parents of our Thomas DURHAM are, but I know they are NOT Henry Durham and Judith Hunt of Bermuda. I just hate giving up interesting lineages, don't you? Gene Rooks in FL

    3. This is only a possible connection but this information is from a relative Kavanaugh Watt Dodson who trace his linage or at least came up with , James Jeremiah Dodson and his two brothers Elisha Simmon Dodson and John Paul Dodson came to the United States in the late 17 century. They landed at Louisiana and went there seperate ways. All three were Evangelist and one went east, one went west and one went north. Jeremiah went north up the Mississippi river to the mouth of the Arkansas, and went up the Arkansas to the northeast part of Oklahoma, where he married his wife . They had two sons Newton Columbus Dodson and John Jeremiah Dodson. James Jeremiah Dodsons wife was Bright Star the daughter of an Osage Indian chief, and James Jeremiah Dodson lived with her tribe until he was accused of telling tribal secrets and was scalped by Bright Stars people sometime in 181?. Afterwards Bright Star left the tribe and moved to Cambridge massachusetts. There she raised her two boys, Newton Columbus Dodson and John Jeremiah Dodson and sent them thru Harvard University. Newton Columbus Dodson was born in 1810 and died in 1910 he was a Methodist preacher. Newton Columbus Dodson married in 1845 but I do not know to who or where. They had three boys, Elisha, Columbus, and James Harvey. Newtons wife died during 1852 in Missouri. He remarried in 1857 to Harriett ullia Ann Stanfield, a red haired German girl and school teacher. They lived in Ripley County Missouri and had five boys and two girls. The children of Harriett and Newton Columbus Dodson were from oldest to youngest, Joseph Lou Ellen, Mary Jane, Simmon Depree, Kavanaugh Wyatt, Lewis Henry, Frank E. and Lucretia. All were born in Ripley County Missouri except for Lucreita who was born in Pocahantas Arkansas in 1872. Frank E. was born in 1870, Lewis Henry in 1868 , Kavanaugh Wyatt in 1865, Simmon Depree in 1862, and Joseph Lou Ellen in 1858. I have more but it is the childrens bedtime so I must attend to them if any of this sounds familiar to anyone or can verify any of this please post to the list or respond privately to Kyle Stokes at captain@ipa.net -----Original Message----- From: Noel Reen <explorer@pop.nlci.com> To: DODSON-L@rootsweb.com <DODSON-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, March 04, 1998 6:43 PM Subject: Re: Elisha Dodson b. abt 1788 >Jim There is Newton Columbus Dodson born 1820 Clarks co. Hope Cemetary, d 1964(this church was on his circuit.) After his marriage to Lottie failed, he married Viola WHEELER,( maybe not her maiden name as she had one child prior to their marriage), who is said to have been born on cherokee lands and was full cherokee, #325 is the place given for her death and the birth of at least one of their kids. I don't yet know what this # means. Children of this union include OWayne, JP, and Bobby who was given up for adoption after her untimely death to a family "MEEKS". Oscar's final marriage was to Cordie Bell McAnnally, they lived their married life in Guthrie. Oscar was 3/4 Cherokee. It is said that the DODSON family migrated to TX from TN. I don't know when and I don't yet know the parents of William Oscar and Walter T. DODSON. Lynne LJM7938@aol.com
