Richard and All, I have the 2 books quoted regarding sources for the Hightower Dodson family. Baber's book, p. 102 lists Frances Hanks, dau. of Moses, being married to Fortunatus Dodson on Sept. 22, 1793 in Halifax Co., VA. No children are listed. Baber's book, p. 104 lists Sarah "Sary" Hanks, dau. of Moses, being married to a Hightower Dodson. No children are listed. In the 2-vol. Dodson book by Lucas, on p. 137-138 is listed Fortunatus Dodson (son of David Dodson) md. to Frances Hanks, dau. of Moses. That part agrees. For the children listed of Fortunatus and Frances, there is no daughter Sarah listed. Also in Lucas, p. 144 is listed Hightower Dodson (son of Thomas, gson of Greenham). He married 1st on 4 July 1807 to Sallie Dodson. Lucas says that "Her parents have not been determined, through she might have been connected to the family of #74 David and Elizabeth Dodson." Lucas lists Hightower marrying 2nd to Sarah "Sallie" Hanks, dau. of Moses. That part also agrees with what you said. I believe you have the ancestry of Hightower's first wife wrong. You offer no proof that Sarah Dodson was a daughter of Fortunatus and Frances (Hanks) Dodson. Hightower did have 2 wives named Sarah (and it does get confusing because there are so many Hanks-Dodson marriages and there are more than one Greenham and more than one Hightower and more than one Fortunatus Dodson). But I believe the ancestry of the 1st wife, Sarah Dodson, that you give, is incorrect. The way you have it, Hightower would have married 1st to Sarah Dodson, dau. of Fortunatus & Frances Hanks Dodson, gdau. of Moses. Hightower would have married 2nd to Sarah Hanks, daughter of Moses. I don't believe Hightower would have married secondly to the aunt of his first wife. I still believe the first wife's Dodson ancestry is unproven. Hi all! Can you tell me why AOL kicks back my emails? I'm not terribly savy... about all of this. I got an email from a fella about DOTSON's from an aol address and it keeps getting kicked back to me. I won't swear I copied it correctly..Can't remember if I copied/pasted or wrote it. I'm trying to get in the habit of c/paste. Thanks for your tip! CDA
Hope this means something to you. Get back to me with your line! CDA
Hi, I am sure that our Dodsons are related. Rev George Dodson & wife Martha Lockhart Dodson were born in Patrick/Pittsylvania Co ca 1776--thus, their names--George and Martha. George's parents were witnesses to the will of Martha's father in 1790 in Pittsylvania Co VA. They married ca 1796 and eventually settled in Wayne Co Ky where they raised a large family. They moved to Boone/Hendricks Co IN near Zionsville where George helped establish the Eagle Creek Baptist Church He is buried there, but I have not found the cemetery. Martha Lockhart Dodson was living with her son Ruel Dodson in Vermilion Co IL and was listed there on the census. Their land is now Kennekuk Cove County Park in Blount Twshp. I have a list of cemetery readings fromthe Eagle Creek Cemetery. If anyone is interested I can post Dodson stones from Dodson Cemetery. I have a list of Martha & George Dodson's known children. Hi, I also have a connection, I think, to George & Margaret Dagord Dodson through their son George. There is some confusion on the George's, but our line appears to come from the Patrick/Pittsylvania George Dodson. I do know that I am a descendant of Rev George Dodson m Patrick Co Va to Martha Lockhart. They settled in Wayne Co Ky where George was ordained in the Baptist church. They moved ca 1828 to Boone/Hendricks Co IN near Zionsville, IN. George helped establish the Eagle Creek Baptist Church. George and Thomas Dodson are buried their. Martha Lockhart Dodson was living in Vermilion Co Il near Danville with her son Ruel and Mary Dickerson Dodson and children. Mary Dickerson also 70 b. Va were in the home. Hi, All: Several days ago, there was a message by someone on this list concerning unauthorized use of their research on, if I remember correctly, WFT CD #15. I read it and saved it for a few days, but since it didn't seem to concern me, I then deleted it. I seem to have come up against this same problem. I just received an e-mail from someone stating that they saw my information on WFT #15, and asking questions about a person, supposedly from my data, that I have never heard of. Would you please contact me, whoever had this problem and sent the message, or if someone else had the common sense to save it, would you let me know so we can compare experiences? Thanks so much. Does anyone have any-thing on Isaac Dodson and Mary Gibson they were married in Wayne County Ky. in 1806 They had at least five female and two male's in the family.the ones I have names for are James Dodson b-c 1806, Archibald Dodson b-1 May 1811, Dicey Dodson b-23 Jan. 1820, Rutha Jane Dodson b-27 Aug. 1827. the other three females I dont have names for. Bill - and other Dodson cousins: The family of Thomas and Polly Dodson were in Grainger Co., TN in 1800-1806 and in 1817, purchased 200 acres of land on the Clinch River in Grainger Co. He sold this land to Thomas Nash, who was the father of Frances. Later they were possibly in Marion Co., TN, then Rhea Co., TN. I have practically no data on Frances Nash. I have b. 1804 in VA, d. 1850-1858, no place names. She possibly had a brother named Marvel Nash. No name of mother. Samuel W. Dotson and Frances Nash had 12 children, b. TN. They were on the 1850 Rhea Co., TN census, but they were also in White Co. Anyone else have a connection to Samuel W. and Frances? Their children were Nathaniel, Abner, William F., Mary, Thomas Henry, Nancy Jane, Emeline, Eliza, Margaret, George W., Amanda Caroline, and Zachariah Taylor. Thanks, Barbara
Shelley and Gene and others.... On the Dodson Puzzle page that I mentioned in an earlier post there are many messages taken from this list re: Jamestown and Dodsons. Glenn Gohr was kind enough to give me permission to put his messages on my web page. Glenn posted everything he has found from different sources on this story about Jamestown that has been circulating for years. It's quite interesting to read it all and after doing just that I still believe that no one has offered proof that our Dodsons were in Jamestown. I believe Glenn's opinion is the same as mine. Shelley, at the moment there is no verified information on who the parents of Charles Dodson born 1649 are. He is the oldest confirmed ancestor on this line. You may receive information from others that Charles is the son of a Jesse, who is the son of a John Dods or Dodson who was in Jamestown in 1607. Believe me, it cannot be proved, because I've tried. There was a John Dods in Jamestown in 1607, he was a soldier/laborer aboard one of the first ships. He survived until the first census was taken in 1624, at which time he was listed with a wife Jane, age 40 at that time, and NO children listed. I really don't think he had any, no records exist of any land transfers or will or estate records. That fancied lineage does appear on LDS charts, so it gets wide circulation, but IT HAS NO documentation at all. Just wanted to warn you not to just accept what you will surely be told. If someone can back anything up on a parent for Charles Dodson, I would love to see it. Just for the records, there is a Thomas DODSON emigrant into VA in 1643, whom I suspect, without any proof, to be the father of Charles. This information I found in the book Early Virginia Immigrants by Greer. Happy hunting, Gene in FL
Hi Shelley, I have a Dodson web page with a lot of info from the Dodson book (Dodson/Dotson of North Farnham Parish......") It's a huge file. You may want to d/l and read offline. http://pages.prodigy.net/wchs "Shenandoah Ancestry" Scroll to botton of page where you'll fine the index. Click on "Dodson Ancestry" There are other Dodson pages.....Dodson News, Dodson Puzzle, etc. There are still some typos and I'm sure there are errors on the Dodson Ancestry page but you'll find a lot of info that may help you. Hey all of you DODSON cousins. Thanks to my query about Daniel Blue Dodson I have found his five earlier ancestors. I am amazed at what one simple question to this list did. I found that he is in this line> 1. Charles Dodson abt 1649- August 1, 1716 + Anne Dodson 1654 2. Lambeth Dodson 1689 + Sara Morris 1693-Feb. 21, 1736 3. Lambeth Dodson JR. 4. William Dodson I 1750/60 - after 1830 5. William "Bucky" Dodson, Jr. Feb 2, 1793 - Aug 9, 1879 + Martha Frances Peck (I have Walker as her surname) abt. 1800- 1875 Does anyone on the list have any personal notes or a GEDCOM with this info. that they would be willing to share? Does anyone have any info. further on back than this. I would like to know where the immigrant ancestor came from. ....Shelley Noble SURNAMES: King, Keltch, Noble, Henry, Dobson, Deshields, Denton, Campbell, Blake, Southerland, Ledford, Robison, Phillips, Wren,
Bill, After viewing your page, I see you have a lot of Nash individuals. My descendancy is from your same Samuel Dodson, Sr., then Thomas Dodson (m. Polly ?), then Samuel W. Dotson, who was born 1800 in TN, and married Frances Nash. Would you know if she is related to any of your Nashes? Or does anyone else have any information they can add to this family? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Barbara fsmacd@c2i2.com
