I'm searching for the parents of my GG grandmother Mary Elizabeth (Lizabeth) Dotson Pearson. She married Joseph Garrett Pearson in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1873. She moved to Logan County, Arkansas around 1880 and died there in 1923. I have her death certificate, but her parents are not listed. Just the name Dotson. The Huntington Beach Public Library in Huntington Beach California . Go to the Geneaology Room they have a couple other Dodson books. I spent two weekends going through the North Farnham Parish books. Found what I had always been told growing up. However, that doesn't mean it isn't true. It just means it is unproven. I would like to suggest (and this means I'm going to have to go through and edit my tree!) that we add "(unproven)" to the names of ancestors we aren't able to document and perhaps add a story or comments about why, in spite of the fact we are unable to document the relationship, we believe it is true. I agree--if there is no proof, then don't post it unless it's as something clearly posted as a THEORY -- with no real proof. People keep putting this online as something true and documented--and as far as I can tell, it's just a story. Someone once told me "that putting something undocumented out there (in print or online) and then trying to get it stopped is like nailing Jell-0 to a tree". Some researchers don't really bother to check out documentation -- they just assume it's correct. Anyone who has worked with any of the genealogy societies (DAR, SAR, DRT, etc.), know they won't accept anything that doesn't meet their criteria as "real documentation".
