Hi DODSON folk! Is this David DODSON that Arlina mentions the son of George DODSON and Margaret DAGOOD? The same David DODSON who had a son Asa DODSON born 28 May 1780? If so I did not have the last name for his mother Elizabeth. Somebody please advise here if these are one and the same. Gene (and others), I have noticed that this list AUTOMATICALLY replies to the list when you hit reply to author. THis is so that any valuable genealogy information gets to the list!! We can all help the list along in the way of personal messages by adding our e-mail address somewhere in our post. That way, we can respond with the "miscellaneous" stuff back to the author of the post!! Just my two cents - for what it's worth. Greetings: While I certainly enjoy most of the exchange that goes on with this Discussion List, like most of you, I get dozens of e-mail messages daily. Some from the DODSON list could be eliminated if directed to the specific individual/individuals they concern. There's really no need to "broadcast" a thank you note, follow-up question or specific response intended for one person to the entire List. Hi Betty and Mr. Demastus, Many thanks to you both for your kind (and informative!) replies to the Hightower/Bryan question! Regards, Karen Trouvat
Hi, guys. I've done a little checking with the Elmore discussion group. They do show a Peter ELMORE of Richmond Co., who had a daughter Anne born 1679, but she married someone else, and was too young, besides, to be wife of our Charles DODSON ancestor. Here's at least part of what I have: A chart which shows: Eleanor Hightower who married Greenham Dodson was dgtr of John Hightower and Mary Bryan. Mary Bryan's parents were Thomas Bryan, Jr and Elleanor Winnifred. Thomas' parents were Thomas Bryant, Sr and Mary Wright. I have no dates on this information, but I have the following below the chart: "Although further research is needed to support this lineage, the following material is taken from "Edmond Nelson-Jane Taylor Family History" by Mansel H. Nelson, Pub 1970, per Research by Mary Jan Hollingsworth of Salt Lake City, UT. Note the book was published in 1870 and possibly has corrections and additions to be made. "Elinor Dodson Taylor's (dgtr of Greenham and Elanor) great grandfather was Thomas Bryan Jr died 1718 in Richmond Co, VA. His wife was Elleanor Winnifred? (records very dim). Thomas was son of Thomas Bryant, Sr and Mary Wright, daughter of Thomas Wright and Mary _______. Mary Bryan, daughter of Thomas Bryan, Jr and Elleanor, married John Hightower, son of Joshua Hightower, who came from Ireland to Virginia. Mary and John Hightower lived in Farnham Parish, Warsaw, VA; their children were born in Richmond Co. " 1686 Land Deed of Thomas Bryant Sr to son, Thomas Bryan Jr. Old Rappahannock County, VA records, 1681-1688 pp 243-244 Abstract: Know all men by these present that I thomas Bryant for . . . Hi, Tom, and thanks for your input. My sources on William Creel born ca. 1712 who married Alice DODSON, in 1729 Richmond Co., VA, are first, pages from Anywhere I Wander, compiled and edited by J. Adolphus Owens, which is about the CREEL family, and also Lucas's book on the DODSON family referenced so many times on this list. Both state that William was the son of Thomas CREEL and Elizabeth, and that he died 1757 in Prince William Co., VA. The Owens book on the Creels does not give a birthdate for this William, while Lucas shows 1712. The birth of a William CREEL to Charles CREEL and Elizabeth on Aug. 17, 1712, is shown in the Owens book, followed by the notation that he probably died young. His siblings, all noted with specific dates in Northumberland Co., VA, were Charles, Mary Ann, Hannah, and John CREEL. Charles and Thomas Creel, the fathers of these two sons named William, are brothers, both sons of John Creele and Anne. The two Williams would have been first cousins. The William who survived to marry Alice Dodson named his children Sarah, Mathew, John, and probably Wm. Creel, Jr. I do not have the specific primary source citations for either one, but both family genealogies are in agreement. Perhaps others can share some more info here? Karen There is a rootsweb page in the USGenWeb, that has history and other information on Greenbriar Co, and probably similar info on other counties in the area. The address is http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvgreenb/. If you have not searched through the US Gen Web sites, you might try them. They also have a mailing list for Greenbriar Co., I believe. Some of the counties have good stuff, and other counties have nothing, but GenWeb is fairly new, and growing better and bigger all the time. Rick, Not sure if this will help, but I do know that some of my Dodsons moved on to MO from Wayne co KY. Check on the Wayne Co Ky Records (5 vol. set) by June Baldwin Bork. George & Martha Lockhart Dodson and some of their siblings came there from Patrick/Pittslyvania Co Va. One was Leonard Dodson. About 1828 George & Martha and other family members moved on to Boone Co In and eventually their children to IL. They had very large families. I do not have all their descendants recorded. I do know that some of George & Martha's children moved to Mo. Probably some of their cousins also. Good luck. If you make a connection please let me know. These Dodsons are listed in the Dodson FAmily of Northa Farnham Parish, Richmond Va. That is a 2 vol set which might give you further leads.
