Subj: Re: [TNMAURY-L] Re: Hanks/Dodson/Johnson Date: 98-04-07 19:34:02 EDT From: cjohn@tznet.com (Carol A. Johnson) Reply-to: TNMAURY-L@rootsweb.com To: TNMAURY-L@rootsweb.com Hi Guys, this DODSON is not my family, but have a little info. from the Book "The DODSON (DOTSON) Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia: A history and genealogy of their descendents" In Vol I p. 37: "On March 23, 1811, Hawkins Co., TN (deed 6-475), Thomas (x) Dodson made a deed of gift to his children of all his interest in the estate of his son, William Dodson, to whom he became 'heir-at-law' at the son's death. He named his children as William Johnson, james Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jesse Dodson and Samuel dodson to whom he relinquished his claim on the estate and allotted to each of them $100. The remainder of the estate was to be divided equally between William, james and Stephen Johnson, Rhodar Hittson, James Dodson, jesse and Samuel Dodson, and additionally to Samuel Dodson, one lot in the town of Pulaski for his special services (apparently as administrator of the estate). Lot #25 was obviously in the town of Somerset, Pulaski Co.KY." On p. 36 (same book): "Winifred Dodson (Johnson) - Winney married William Johnson, Probably in Hawkins Co. TN. They resided in the Hawkins/Grainger Co. Area. Rev. Elias Dodson and his mother visited them in 1831. Their descendants have not been traced." "Alice Dodson (Johnson) - Alcy married Stephen Johnson, probably in Hawikins Co.TN. The Rev. Elias Dodson said she married Jerry (Jeremiah) Johnson, but this is an error on his part. The distribution of the Thomas Dodson estate named William, james, and Stephen Johnson as his heirs. This is further substantiated by Johnson family history. Their children have not been traced." Hope this helps someone. Hey guys, I live only about 30 miles from Poplar Bluff so thought I'd clarify something for ya. While to some it might be close to St. Louis to all of us who live near it is considered to be in Southeast MO. We are actually about 3 1/2 hours from St. Louis. Just thought I'd throw that in. :-) Cathy
Judy... The Oliver Dodson who died last week was my great- uncle - His sister, Minnie Pearl Dodson, was my paternal grandmother. Poplar Bluff, MO is near St. Louis and as far as I know none of "my" Dodsons were ever there - or in Arkansas, but who knows??? I too have seen a lot of the "Columbus" name pop up throughout the Dodsons and related families. Sorry I couldn't be of more help... I'm looking for information on my 3rd ggrandmother, SUSANNA DODSON, who was born in 1826. She married ANDREW J. BOYD, who was born in 1816. Family oral tradition has it that Susanna and Andrew may originally have been from Maryland. They spent some time in Belmont County, Ohio and then came to Northern Indiana where Andrew died on July 25, 1855. They had at least one child, my 2nd ggrandmother,CORNELIA BOYD, who married WILLIAM A. TOWNS. After Andrew's death, Susanna married ROBERT TOWNS. SUSANNA DODSON BOYD TOWNS died near Etna Green, Indiana on October 1, 1866. If anybody has any information on any of these folks please let me know. Best regards, Brian Hoffer

Can anyone supply me with any thing on these people? >> The substitution of "Lambert" for "Lambeth" is an error that was first published in Lucas's history of this family. The man in question signed his name as Lambeth as did his youngest son and namesake.
