Dodson, [(b c1795-1800 in SC or maybe Georgia) who migrated from Bibb and Tuscaloosa counties of Alabama in 1839 to Hempstead County, Arkansas then to Smith and Wood Counties of Texas], had two children who married Falkner/Faulkner mates in Arkansas in 1842 and 1843. The oldest son, William Wyman Dodson, married Adaline Falkner July 29, 1842 in Hempstead County, Arkansas. The oldest daughter, Nancy Dodson, married Adaline's brother's, Hiram J. Faulkner, on September 28, 1843. Would like to hear from anyone who researching this Dodson family or the Faulkner line. Jynelle

    3. Well, thanks to Phyllis Clendaniel and her kind husband, I now have a copy of the Fry -Jefferson 1755 map of Virginia and it's beautiful. It's also amazing, Joseph Neville's Ordinary is out in the middle of nowhere on the frontier. Looking at the Prince William County section in Virginia Gen Web http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagenweb/ I found an interesting article about Prince William County during the French and Indian War. None of "our" guys were mentioned but good old Cuthbert Bullit fought a duel! I guess because I've been reading land causes lately I got the impression there were "lots" of people about. No, this place was really the frontier in 1738-1765! Even the merest hint of Indians only four miles away was causing settlers to flee. Amazing and humbling to this urbanite. As I worked through the land causes, I've put together some ideas about the Neville children and land. My guess is the first child of John and Elizabeth Bohannon Neville to head west was probably daughter Elizabeth Neville (b. 1691) who married Joseph Bohannon (brother of Ann Bohannon). The two of them with their children purchased land near THE Bull Run in Prince William in 1733. Joseph died five years later. Elizabeth then apparently bought more land, nearby on the South branch of the Broad Run in 1742. She remarried a Thomas Faulkner then they gave that land to her sons Neville Bohannon and William Bohannon in 1745. The Faulkners and Bohannons then sold that same piece of land to ta-da Thomas Dodson (probably III) in 1751. (Thanks to Bill Scroggin's research for some of this insight) Meanwhile, Thomas Dodson II apparently purchased land intermingled with all the above about 1740. The land his son bought bordered that of the father. And the land Joseph Neville Sr. lived on (and rented from the ubiquitous Rev. David Stuart) was somehow mixed in or around all of this. Joseph Neville Sr.'s Rockingham property which he purchased in 1750 was not far away. And of course George Neville's property and ordinary weren't too far distant either. It's nice to think they had relatives to run to when the Indians got too close! (I just hope they were in brick houses and not straw!). Anyway, it's been interesting. 3. Fortunatus Dodson, married Frances Hanks. The line, backwards, is believed to go as follows: David Dodson (b abt 1740- bef 1820) + Elizabeth Dodson (daughter of Thomas "Second Fork" Dodson and Mary Neville) Thus he married his cousin George Dodson (Oct 31, 1702- ?) +Margaret Dagood (Dagard? 1708-?) Thomas Dodson (May 15, 1681- ca 1739) + Mary Durham Charles Dodson (ca 1649-1705) + Anne (Elmore?) 3. The Dodsons of North Farnham Parish have a Fortunatus Dodson on page 137, born ca 1771 in Virginia. He married Frances Hanks, daughter of Moses and Agatha Dodson Hanks on 23 Sept 1793 in Halifax County. (I descend from these two). Unfortunately, the list of children is only of sons and there is no Sarah, though the authors concede they do not believe they have a completely list of the children. "Perhaps an in depth study of the records of Maury, Cop, TN and the counties of the Jackson Purchase area of KY would yield some information. Wayne Co, TN has had a substantial loss of records but should be checked also for an possibilities". A Forton Dotson was on the tax list of Maury county in 1811 and the authors of the books link him to the above Fortunatus. The Hanks family, of course, had moved en masse to Maury County, TN from Pulaski Co. Ky (1790s) from Halifax County, VA early in the nineteenth century. The section goes on to explain Fortuntus Dodston was enumerated in the 1820 Maury Co. census as follows: 3 males under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 male over 45; 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 16-26, 1 female over 45. There's room here for your Sarah! Good luck, Michelle Ule Robertule@aol.com Ukiah, CA

    3. I am literally dredging up old notes from my 'ancient' research, and the followin is what I have on Dodsons to America by ship. This came out of library research -- again, don't know if this will be any help, but before I pitch, I'm sharing: Date First Name Location Age 1652 Anne VA 1635 Benjamin VA 1718 Francis America 1774 Henry MD 23 1746 John America 1643 Thomas VA 1643 William America 1699 William America The following arrived in MD: 1652 John 1662 John 1663 Katherine Also, I just found in the VA archives (recently) that a ship Captain, Samuel Dodson, was being sued -- Do you Dodsons know who this person is? An unproven ancestor of mine has been proported to be Samuel Dodson b. ca 1675. Anyone have any clues on this person or the ship captain? Betty

    3. Robert, about a year ago I got my "ears lowered" on the same subject. I still think it has merit and with any luck and the proper amount of longevity I hope to see an answer that is acceptable to all. I also knew nothing of the DODSONS that made up the Shenandoah Park Families. There is room for everyone and each new venture may well be the one that opens the door to the missing facts.
