    3. Richard---I noticed that you have done extensive Dodson research. Have you run across either of the following: John DODSON, b ca 1821 md Judith Frasier or Isaac DODSON, b ca 1774/75 md. Mary "Polly" Gibson. Both Dodson lines went through White Co., TN at one time. 3. My Dotson/Dodsons came from VA. to Grainger Co.,TN. then to Polk/Cedar Co., Mo by 1860. I don't have any info on John's brothers, but Benjamin could have been a son of one of them. John was born in 1820 so Benjamin could have been a nephew. 3. This is a long shot, but I'll post it anyway. Does anybody know of Rufus DOTSON, born about 1925-1930 I would say. He was in the US Marine Corps about 1948. He may have been in the Missouri, Kentucky or Michigan area about 1949-1950. Just wondered if anybody knew of his whereabouts today. He may be a family link. 3. My John Dotson/Dodson was born about 1820 in Grainger Co., Tn. His father was also probably John and his grandfather Samuel, then the line is supposed to go John>Lambeth>Charles. I don't know if there is documentation for this. My John, who was my gg-grandfather, moved from Grainger Co. to Polk and Cedar Co., Mo before 1860. He married Martha (Patsy) Grady in Grainger Co. in 1843. We are related through her mother, Agatha Williams (1802-1874) and her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Hanks (1782-1833). Elizabeth's mother was Agatha Dodson (1749-1830), daughter of Thomas "Second Fork" Dodson III (1728-1811). Second Fork's father, Thomas Dodson, Jr. (1702-1784), was the son of my g8-father, Thomas Dodson, Sr. (1681-1740). I also have a few other connections to Woolvertons through marriages: James Matthew Woolverton is the hushand of my 4th counsin, 4 times removed; Mary "Polly" Woolverton is the wife of my 3rd counsin, 5 times removed; and Nancy Woolverton is the wife of my 2nd cousin, 6 times removed and 3rd cousin, 5 times removed. Hi Sandi -- I think we've communicated some in the past since we are both Dodson/Dotsons. 3. I now have the 2 volume set of the Williams/Lucas book, the Thompson Ege book on the PA Dodsons and Jim Dotson's book on the descendants of Richard Dotson. However, I am still unable to connect up my "Dangling Dotson", Richard born 10/23/1752 in Shenandoah Co VA. He is referenced in the Lucas book as a dangler; he might be a descendant of Michael son of Thomas m. Mary Prigg (no conclusive evidence); and the Jim Dotson book is composed of his descendants along with suppositions about his possible ancestors--but again, no verification. Does anyone know of any other Dodson/Dotson books available for purchase (referencing pre-1800 Dodson/Dotsons), -or- web-sites that might have information? Any help would be appreciated, Betty

    2. Glen, Evidently Elizabeth Dale Young, Dodson Rogers left a will in Lancaster Co., Va in 1728. She named her children Thomas Young, Robert Young, Reuben Young, William Dodson, Charles Dodson and Ann Rogers. The only dates of any of the marriages for Elizabeth Dale is March 12, 1677/78 to William Rogers, son of Capt. John Rogers. Joe, At present I don't have much on your Dale side. I will use the info you sent to see if I can find anything. I have filled in my database with what you sent me on Rogers, and am sending you a file which takes you one generation back. It's all I have at present. I hope it's of some help. Flora FIRST GENERATION 1. John Capt. ROGERS1 was born in 1620 in Eng/VA.1 He was a vestryman of Chicacone parish in May 1655 2 He was Sheriff for 1655-56.3 He died before 21 Jul 1680 in VA.2 will was presented for probate, is no longer of record in Northumberland Co. Capt John Rogers was the first of this family in VA, on 8/4/1655 stated his age was 45. He purchased 250 acres in Northumberland Co. from James Claughton on 1/20 1652/3. On Nov 30, 1656 he repatented the 300 acres he had originally patented in 1654 (Viirginia Patents, v 4 pp 39-40.v. 3 p 277). He added another 200 acres on 8/31/1657 (VA Patents v 4, p 204) and on 1/9/1662/3 repatented this land and his 250 acres origiinally patented in 1654. (ibid, p. 569) On 7/20/1654 John conveyed a calf to each of his children Katherine, Elizabeth and John (Northumberland co. VA, Record Bk 14, p 47r) John Rogers and his wife Ellen had: 1. Elizabeth 2. Katherine 3. John 4. Richard 5. William 6. Ellen 2. Elizabeth ROGERS died in 1720. She was buried in Cypress Farm, Northumberland Co.. Elizabeth ROGERS and Thomas BANKS 2nd husband had no known children. Elizabeth ROGERS and William KEENE 1st husband had no known children. 4. John ROGERS died in 1680--will presented for probate by his widow. got a calf from his father in 1654 John ROGERS was born before 1680 in VA. at father's death, placed under care of William Rogers, and later Richard Rogers and Mr. Keen. 5. Richard ROGERS died before 20 May 1703. He was a in Justice of Northumberland Co. VA; elected to House of Burgesses. Had 3 children Richard, John and Hannah all dec'd by 5/20/1703. Also a son William Rogers who d. young. 6. William ROGERS died in 1714 in Lancaster co.. See VA Genealogist Vol11 for more details about him. or d. 1744 Married Elizabeth DALE March 12 1677/78 in Lancaster Co. I am not certain whether Elizabeth DALE was the daughter of Edward DALE and Diana SKIPWORTH or Reuben DALE and Elizabeth SIMMONDS. There is conflicting information. It was first thought that Elizabeth DALE who married Thomas YOUNG, William DODSON and William ROGERS was the daughter of Reuben because of the fact that from previous email from me: Reuben Dale appears in the records of Old Rapahannock Co. in 1685 and 1689. This Reuben Dale was dead by 1692 and his wife Elizabeth was his executrix. Richmond and Essex Counties were formed from Old Rappahannock Co. in 1692. Abraham, thomas, and a younger Elizabeth Dale lived in Richmond Co. in the Northern Neck of Virginia. They must have been the heirs of this Reuben Dale, but the proof is yet to be found. {April 4, 1960}. Then I found this in the descendents of The Farish Fajmily of Virginia and Its Forebears, by John Fredrick Dorman, Priv. publ. 1967. See: pg 58, "The Rogers Family" also, pp. 106-108, "Descent of Elizabeth (Dale) Rogers from Henry, the Third, King of England and Sureties of Magna Charta." Descendants of Capt. Thomas Carter, by Joseph Lyon Miller, M.D. Reprint C.J. Carrier Co., 1972. See: pp. 12-25, "The Dale and Skipwith Familes." This has Elizabeth's lineas as being from Edward DALE and Diana SKIPWORTH. But it is fairly certain that whoever Elizabeth DALE was she died and left a will in 1728 in Lancaster Co., Va and named 6 of her children: 1.Thomas Young 2.Robert Young 3.Reuben Young 4.William Dodson 5.Charles Dodson and 6. Ann Rogers This may well be a brother to Charles, what do you think. Joe Payne Knoxville, TN line of ShirleeS@aol.com

    3. Hi Molly: I have never connected back to Lambert Dodson though Rev. Lucas suggested that there was a strong possibility that he was the father of Charles Dodson. Since the name Lambert/Lambeth has never been used in our family, I started looking elsewhere and in 20 years have never found a father for Charles. Sometimes I think he was hatched.
