Hello, I don't know about a Dodson-Dickerson connection, but I am interested in Dodsons from Indiana. I am particularly interested in a Jacob(or Jacab) Dodson, I show his years as 1814-1868, and one reference says he came from Indiana. He married Priscilla Helsley from Shenandoah Co Va, and they moved to Lewis County, WVA, where I think he died. I have lots of details of his children in WVA, and I have info about Priscilla, but I don't know where he came from. One shakey reference had his name as Joseph, not Jacab. Thanks for any help.

I suspect that Polly Dodson would be Mary Dodson his sister or cousin. Thanks, Jo Ann Reynolds quilter@soltec.com

    3. Ken: If you ever find any info (verifiable) on a Daniel & Sussanne/Susannah Dodshon/Dodson of Knaresborough please let me know. I am told my ancestors are from them thru their children: John B. March 1655; Susannah B. July 1661; Mary B. Nov. 17, 1664 M. 1683 Richard Boyes; David B. 1666; Dorothy B. Aug. 13, 1667; Thomas B. Oct. 19, 1669 D. Nov. 15, 1740 M. July 16, 1698 Katherine Savill; William B. Feb. 13, 1672. My direct ancestor is supposed to be Thomas and Katherine Savil (dau. of John Saville of Snape and she died Oct. 24, 1755. I have visited Knaresborough and done some research in Quaker records but I do not find that any of the above ever came to the states. I think possibly one of their ancestors by the same name were the ones that came over. Will appreciate any findings that you may have. 3. What follows is for our British cousin, Ken. I love his country so hopefully this will be of some help. This is copied from a report called "The Name and Family of Dotson" compiled by the "Media Research Bureau" of Washington, DC. I received this report from another person who had received it from someone else, so I have no information as to its validity. The report has other bits and pieces of different Dodson/Dotson lines that are valid, but no new information on America Dodson/Dotsons that has not been published elsewhere. “In the latter part of the fifteenth century, one Dotson or Dodson (Christian name unknown) resided in County Cornwall, and by his wife, a daughter of John Hey or Haye, he was the father of Thomas Dotson or Dodson, who married a Miss Molyne or Molines and had issue by her of a son named John, who was the father by his wife, Margaret Enys, of John, Thomas, Alice, Margaret and Jane. Of these, Thomas married Elizabeth, daughter of William Piper, and had issue by her of Robert, Samson (or Sampson), and Mary, of whom the first was the father in the early 17th century by his wife, Thomazine, daughter of Francis Buller, of Thomas, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Mary. Robert had no further issue by his second wife, Mary or Margaret, daughter of Sir Hugh Pollard.” “Thomas Dodson, eldest son and heir of Robert, above mentioned, married Elizabeth, daughter of Elias Wills, in 1641 and had issue by her of Thomas, Susan, and another son, whose name is not know. Of these, Thomas married Elizabeth, daughter of William Medley, of Hertfordshire, and was the father by her of Thomas, Sedley, Ann, Mary, Johanna, and Grace, of whom the first was married in 1684 to Mary, daughter of John Buller, and was the father of Thomas, John, Mary, Anna, Margaret, Thomasine, and Sarah, of whom the first left at least two children, Mary and John Dodson.” “Samson or Sampson Dodson, Younger son of Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Piper) Dodson or Dotson, had two children (names unknown), one of whom was the father of Thomas Dodson, a member of Parliament for London in 1708, who was the father of another Thomas, who had at least one son, named John.” “The brothers Richard and Thomas Dodson were living at Kirkby Overblows, in England, before 1589. Of these Richard had a son named Miles, who married Lucy, daughter of Peter Cooke, and was the father by her of a son named Peter, who was the father by his wife, Alice Nettleton, of Thomas who mentions in his will (dated 1706) his nephew, Albany Dodson, who married Eleanor, daughter of Edward Beckwith, and left a son named Albany.” “Of the Sussex County line of the family in England, the Reverend Jeremiah Dodson was living about the middle of the seventeenth century, and his cousin, Sir William Dodson, was councilman and elderman of London about the same time. Of these, the Rev Jermiah Dodson left issue of Jeremiah, John, and William. Sir William and the Rev Jeremiah were both nephews of William Dodson, of Westminster England, who was married in 1632 to Margaret, daughter of Thomas Stockwood. Sir William had a brother named John; and there is also record of a family in County Middlesex, England, before 1689, consisting of four brothers, Jeremiah, James, Daniel and John, who are also believed to have been first cousins of Sir William Dodson, of London.” “A John Dodshon or Dodson was living in Countyt Durham about the end of the 17th century. He was the son of Christopher Dodshon and the grandson of Nicholas Dodshon of Strauton. John was the father by his wife Frances of a son named Nicholas, who married Frances Foster and had issue by her of a son named John and of several daughters.” Betty

    2. Dave, I show Elisha Dodson served as an Ensign in the Revolutionary war in Captain Richard Gwynn's Company. This information came from the Texas Society DAR Roster of Revolutionary Ancestors, Vol. II, p. 626. "The Charles Dodson Family of Richmond Co., VA", by Emma Isabella Sloan stated he was commissioned Ensign of Capt. Richard Gwynn's Company of the County militia on 28 Jan 1779. I am a direct descendant of Elisha Dodson and Sarah Everett (or Averitt), through their second child, Margaret "Peggy" Dodson. I would be glad to share information on any of the Dodson line.
