A few months back, I was told that Native American came into the family thru marriage. My line is Orange County North Carolina. Older family members are ashamed of an amazing Cherokee lady which chose to marry out of her tribe. Having no idea of her name, no one wil tel if they know personally I am proud to be part of that amazing lady. God Bless Sue Dodson Orange County. N.C. Henry Sr and Rachel were married 16 November 1832 in Harrison County, (W)VA. Henry Sr was the son of William and Mary Ann Franks Dotson, and the F may stand for Franks, his mother's maiden name. William Dotson 1776 - 1865 was the son of Richard Dotson born 23 Oct 1752 in Frederick County, VA There are several records of the family in the now Doddridge County area of WV. Their 9 children were born in (W)VA from about 1835 to 1852. Around 1852 Henry Sr sold his land in Doddridge County and we next find records of the family from around 1853 to 1858 in Missouri, but by about 1865 the family was in Grant Oregon. I show that Henry Jr was the youngest son of Henry Sr and Rachel and that he married Annie Hufacker Mosier 25 May 1876 in Boise, Ada, Idaho with children Bernice, Sally, Georgia, Agnes, Al and another Henry born about 1880 in Oregon. His unbroken line goes back to a Chester County PA Richard Dotson born 1731, documented by baptismal records as a son of Thomas of Chester County. But we also have a 100% match with him and a descendant of Richard Dotson born 1752 in Frederick/Shenandoah County, Virginia. What is even more interesting is that both of these descendants match with men who claim to be descendants of both the Blair/Bedford Dodson descendants who came from Maryland in the late 1700's AND to the Dodsons who were early descendants of those who settled in Luzerne County. Currently a person who is being tested believes he descends from the Thomas born about 1748, probably in PA, and who received a Rev War pension and died in Shenandoah County VA. DNA is helping to solve mysteries and tying lines together, but is also changing some long held family traditions. You can see more about Dodson/Dotson DNA testing here: http://freepages.genealogy.roo! tsweb.ancestry.com/~wvpioneers/dnadodsondotson.html Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. DODSON were in Brown, TX on the 1880 Census, with ch. Margaret E., Fannie E., Elijah, Paralee, Jesse, and George W. Dodson. They were murdered soon after census and children were split up. The boys went to OK to be raised by Chambers relatives; the girls stayed in Texas and were raised by Dodsons. James was listed as a full-blood Indian on the 1880 census. (Mary is listed as white.)
